Chapter 34 - I am the one who will 'Remain'

Chapter 34

Devia looks at Aurora like at a madman, then she says:

"What do you want to do? You will also die, together with everyone else if that spear hits."

Aurora looks at her and smiles:

"I said that I was ready to die today, do you remember? And don't worry about the others, that is my job."

"And don't worry, I didn't forget about your freezing fire, I was counting on it. I only needed you to stay put in one place for a moment. Just like that."

Then suddenly an earth cage like a coffin forms around Devia, trapping her completely, with only her head remaining outside. Around the earth cage, water appears, meaning Devia can't use her fire to melt the earth cage, and if she freezes it, then the earth cage will become even stronger.

Then Devia really starts to panic. She begins to scream and tries to break the cage with everything she has, she calls the devils to her, trying to break the cage.

But then she hears Aurora:

"Don't bother. The cage around you is the strongest Seal Earth that I can make. Not even Kyle could get out of that."

When she hears Aurora, an even greater panic overcomes her, and she screams even louder and louder, then she looks up, and the spear is almost on them.

The people, the devils, and the dark beings all start to feel something wrong, they look up and see the giant spear getting closer and closer to the earth. Then the tip of the spear starts to catch fire, followed by a sonic boom that is heard as the clouds are all moved away. The sky becomes clear for hundreds and hundreds of miles; the only thing visible in the sky is the 'Doom Spear.'

All around, there is a deafening quiet. You could hear a pin fall to the ground as everyone just looks at the sky. Then, all of a sudden, a scream is heard from a woman, and then all hell breaks loose.

The devils are trying to return to Devia, planning to escape back to their dimension, while the dark beings search for Nyssa, wanting to go back to their dimension as well.

No one cares to fight anymore; the people also move back toward the city, trying to take cover, but all around them is only despair in their eyes, ugly faces expressing thoughts like, 'For what did we fight if everything will be destroyed? For what all these deaths?'

But then they see the commanders appearing in front of them. On their faces is only a calm smile—no fear or hopelessness. They look at them with questioning gazes, and then they hear one of the commanders:

"Don't lose hope. Everything that is happening is part of the leader's plan; don't worry and just trust your City Ruler."

Then the people start to feel shocked and are not entirely believing the commander. How could the City Ruler keep them safe from that 'Doom Spear'? But the only thing they can do is what the commander said: trust her.

The Doom Spear gets bigger and bigger the closer it approaches earth. At one moment, it feels like it is the only thing visible in the sky, so huge it appears to those down on earth.

And the spear is heading exactly where Devia is trapped, and she sees the Doom Spear approaching closer and closer to her. That drives her even crazier, seeing death approaching and being unable to do anything but just wait, that is pure torture for her.

And Aurora just watches her with calm, uncaring eyes. The frozen ball around her almost melted because of her water magic. Then she looks around and sees the devils and dark beings almost reaching them.

So she creates water balls all around her and starts to fire water bullets, turning the approaching enemies into a beehive, their numbers falling at double the speed before because almost no one was prepared, and no one was defending. The bullets cause maximum damage, leading to even more disorder among their ranks. The ones at the front want to go back, while those at the back want to move forward to Devia, making their killing even easier—that is what happens when there is no 'Leader.'

Then they can hear the Doom Spear, a sound that makes even the most courageous man feel his knees weakening, a noise like a continuous explosion, signaling that the spear is almost upon them. Devia screams with all her strength, but she is powerless to escape, she can only watch as her death approaches closer and closer.

And when the Doom Spear is a few hundred meters above the ground, the air pressure alone sends everything flying. Trees are uprooted, and fire tornadoes begin to form. Everyone looks up, no one having the strength to run anymore, they are frozen in fear on the spot.

Then the inevitable happens: the spear hits the spot exactly where Devia is trapped. When the spear strikes the earth cage, it perforates it like paper. The tip of the spear is so sharp that it pierces her body as if is made of paper, then the rest of the spear shatters her body apart like an egg against stone.

Devia Ar'aken, the Fire-Ice Ruler. Her last breath taken, while her scream is heard for miles and miles by all.

The Devils and Dark Beings just look at their royalty and commander as she dies a dog's death while screaming and pleading to be saved.

Then they watch how the spear breaks her body apart. They simply know this empire can't be conquered anymore.

So they all watch as the spear continues its descent.

But when it strikes the earth, it passes through like water, making only some waves in the earth's surface. All just stare, their brains not working.

There is no explosion, no shockwave, no earth destroyed. No deaths except for Devia's. All are shocked to the core, they watch as the spear, several kilometers long, dives into the earth, making merely waves.

Aurora manages to get away from there, the ball of ice around her melted, and no harm done to her. She also witnessed Devia's last moments, her face was comical at the end, screaming her lungs out while cursing one moment and pleading to be saved the next.

Then she starts flying toward the castle and lands in front of the people and commanders:

"Now it's time to kill some devils."

Then she turns and starts running toward the enemies. Behind her, she hears the screams of her people so powerful that the air begins to vibrate, and inside the castle, some dust starts to fall to the ground from the ceiling.

The devils and dark beings, upon hearing the screams of the people, begin to back off. But Aurora reaches them first and starts to kill them like weeds left and right. The people join the fight with morale at maximum level, while the enemies have the morale at the lowest level possible. It becomes a slaughter, but the ones being slaughtered are the… 'Invaders.'

When Nyssa saw the spear in the sky, her first thought was to return to Devia and run back to their dimension, but Kyle didn't allow her.

Now she knows Devia is dead, she heard her screams all the way to where she was, and when she saw that no explosion happened when the Doom Spear hit the ground, she realized it was their plan all along to break them apart and deal with them one at a time.

But she never thought Devia would lose to Aurora—not even for a second. Now she understands that there is more to these people than mere weakness.

Aurora managed to trick Devia and kill her, even though she was weaker. That means she needs to be even more careful around Kyle because he is even stronger than Aurora, and she has a hunch that Kyle came up with the plan. That means he is not only powerful but also smart.

So until now, she managed to keep him at bay with her mimic powers, but she feels that is exactly what he wanted—to keep her here. He was only stalling.

Now everything feels wrong, she senses that these humans are even scarier than the 'High One' because of their game-like traps.

She needs to find a way to escape from here, there's no way she can conquer the Fourth Empire alone. She feels how her subjects are being killed by the second. In ten minutes, there won't be any left.

Kyle looks at her and knows what she thinks. He says:

"What happened to your courage from earlier? Didn't you say there wouldn't even be leftovers left when you were done with us? And now do you want to run?"

Nyssa just looks at him and doesn't answer, but her aura starts to rise higher and higher, and her body starts to change. After a moment a new Nyssa appears.

Kyle looks at her and can't believe what he sees.
