Izikel followed the stairs down into an opening that went even below the ground floor of the manor. It looked like a small cave.
The cave was empty with only a table, a chair and an open book. There was also a shining black rock but Izikel paid little attention to it.
He rubbed his hand against the rough stone wall, from the looks of things this place was very ancient and wasn't created by any man.
On the opened page of the book was a writing that sent chills down his spine.
"Oroborn is no god, he is a curse"
He quickly flipped the pages backwards until he understood that this was his father, Isiel's final entry.
The thick diary dated back 16 generations, a thousand years ago during the Great war, when the nobility of the Leotard bloodline began. Detailing their individual encounter with the god, Oroborn. The first page was written by a man called Landre Vau-Leotard. It read…
"My search for power has led me to this mysterious rock, I believe it to be an ancient altar of some sort. From my observations this almost indestructible material could have been sitting in this cave for years and it probably fell from the sky years before this cave was formed…"
Izikel paused, then approached the rock, rubbing his hand against it. It felt like a mixture of smooth rusted metal with rocky jagged holes. It was 10-11 feet long with about 3 feets high.
"It's a meteorite," he realized before he continued reading.
"I call it the fallen star, since every powerful altar deserve a name. I'm sure it's going to be a powerful altar because I intend to ignite it,"
Izikel turned to the next entry.
"The process of ignition is a very risky one so I have to be extremely careful not to end up contacting a chaos god. Normally since I want to call on the lunar moon, I would have to enlist the help of someone that is already an anchor, but I am afraid if I inform the kingdom about my discovery, they would claim it for themselves but then again it is heresy to ignite one without informing the queen"
The next entry
"In the books the process wasn't that difficult, simply light a fire on the altar, then drop your blood in it, and then say a prayer to your desired God, while holding an image of them in your mind or simply just believing in their existence enough. But it seems like even after I followed those steps I have failed. It has only been a few hours and the flames has reduced by half and I still haven't gotten any sign from the lunar moon, but I also don't know what to expect so it's possible it worked. I just can't help but be afraid, I heard that if the flames of an altar go out, the anchor would die as well. If I didn't say the prayer correctly, maybe it's for the best that it didn't work,"
From what Izikel could understand so far, Landre was going to ignite something called an altar, and he was going to use this stone to do it. This altar had some sort of power, and the one who ignites it becomes the anchor. He had no idea what that meant so he continued to the next entry hoping to understand better
"I had a dream and in that dream I saw a godly figure. It wasn't the lunar moon but it's presence was certainly that of a god. I think I may have contacted an Outergod, but strangely enough he bears no malice towards mortals, an Outergod that does not hunger for destruction?"
Next entry,
"My dreams have become more vivid and they now warn me about the future. Using my visions I have been able to survive major battles and achieve mighty accomplishments. The queen has decided to grant me a region of my own and make me a priest but yet something still worries me. Although slowly, the flames of the fire continue to reduce. I suspect the ignition ritual wasn't complete,"
Izikel was now invested in the story, quickly flipping to the next entry.
"I added more fire oil but that wasn't enough. So I used the visions from my dream to create a prayer, that wasn't a good idea. Now I have begun seeing strange symbols in my dreams. I fear I may be going mad. I can no longer account for 24 hours of my day, because I randomly have blackouts. I shouldn't have reached deeper,"
The next entry was just three days apart,
"my mind cannot take it anymore, everyday it begs for death, yearning and pleading for me to kill myself because at least death would bring me peace but I have a better idea I'm going to seek out to the unknown God and ask for his help. Hopefully he shall save me from this torment"
The final entry didn't have a date so Izikel couldn't confirm but he had a strong feeling it was the same day as the last one.
"His name is Oroborn, the one who Dreams in the Endless Darkness,"
That was the final entry of Landre Vau-Leotard.
"So he finally ended up killing himself after hearing his true name,"
A cold chill ran down Izikel's spine. Is that how dangerous Outergod's are?.
But at least now he had confirmed that it really was the same God that had brought him to this world.
