Celine tried to keep her expression neutral as she closed the book in front of her, but the weight of Damian's stare was impossible to ignore. His golden eyes burned into her, sharp and demanding.
She casually slid the book further down the table, as if she had been reading something completely harmless and not a text about an erased Luna bloodline.
"Is there a reason you're standing there like a statue?" she asked, tilting her head.
Damian didn't react to her teasing. Instead, he stepped closer, slow and controlled, like a predator assessing its prey.
"I'll ask again," he said, voice dangerously calm. "What are you doing in the library in the middle of the night?"
Celine shrugged. Then responded casually "Reading?"
His jaw clenched. "Reading what?"
She hesitated a second too long , his eyes flicked to the old book she had been trying to conceal.
