Gen pov
"understanding inspires appreciation for a thing" grandma rose paused and aunt Anita raised her arm; back and forth in a fashion as to hail her, grace clapped reluctantly and peace just giggled at everyone's gesture.
"Tomorrow is my grandson's and grandaughter's anniversary, I want everyone to have the understanding that they are very special persons to me and I am sure to us all. Lets put in our best. I am so sorry peace that even though you are bing celebrated tomorrow too, you have to prepare with us too" grandma adjusted her grey curly loose hair that was all over the left side of her face. Peace looked at grandma and wondered who she would have looked like when growing up.
With the speech given, she dispatched everyone. Peace was good at making flower bundles from the curtains, grace was counting the extra lighting needed, aunt Anita was handling the pastries. While grandma, well grandma was handling the setting up of the actual curtain decorations.
Like a maestro, grandma carried the ladder and climbed up it. Peace was one of the only people who wasn't at peace with the idea.
"grandma ! this is too risky, you can also tie down these materials into flowers, please come and do this, while I get to climb the ladder"
"peace love, I understand that you are concerned about me, but I am not lying to you when I said that I used to be a cheer leader in my school, back then I was a gymnast" as she said so the ladder tottered a bit and peaces heart almost left her body.
Immediately, peace began crying, it started up as a tiny sob and whimper but soon she bursted out into tears. Grandma was surprised and she rushed down to peace's aid.
" I cannot believe, I cannot believe that you almost got hurt, grandma if anything were to happen to you, how can I face myself, grandma, please don't climb the ladder"
Grandma , looked at peace right in the eyes,
is that why you are being a cry baby, this my granddaughter loves to over act, she
can be a worry wart.
" peace, I am sorry for making you worry, but I just shaked a bit, you don't have to be worried"
" Right Anita?"
" Yes Peace, your grandma, my mom when she picked your husband's mother and I from school, there was a certain time she went a triple flip In front of our school gate, you should have seen the way other women stared at her, she didn't crack a back then, so I don't think she can now." aunt Anita and grandma had a heartfelt laughter, they laughed as if they were re-living the memories in their heads.
..........
After that, everyone had gone back to their various duties, peace looked happy this time around, as grandma was on top the ladder, pinning the curtains. Down below the ladder were a fortress of pillows below to anchor the ladder and soften her fall if there was eventually going to be one.
Grandma had already finished putting up the curtains and had gotten down. She placed her hands on her hips , raised up her head and smiled at the good work done.
I still got the spirit, I wonder how far peace has gone, this is already 6:00, she should start heading off soon, in an hour or so for thane's office. If not the whole surprise would be ruined.
Grandma walked into the slowly and then spotted peace cracking eggs and aunt rose mixing milk and butter. Grandma closed her eyes and enjoyed the aroma of freshly prepared jollof rice.
" hey, hey Anita dear, your cooking always makes my tongue feel 10 again."
"oh mother, please stop your teasing with me , would you love to eat some now?"
" no , not yet, I would rather wait till dinner time."
"All right."
Grandma spotted grace in the kitchen staring and doing nothing, she decided to assign her work to do, she signaled with her eyes by staring into her eyes and shifting it to the direction of the plates.
Grace slowly moved to the dish area and stared at the dishes In pure dread. She stood there for a period of time not doing anything, grandma rose got a little bit impatient.
" Grace, why are you looking at the dishes in that manner."
"nothing grandma." she picked an apron on the apron rack and put it on reluctantly, she was trying to cook up any kind of excuse by hook or crook that would get her out from this situation. She disliked washing dishes, the thought of dishes made her dread.
Apparently she was an orphan who was first adopted by restaurant owners. As a little orphaned girl at the age of five, who thought that finding her family would be her lifelong dream, it was a nightmare for her, they made her wash plates all the time, she could still search up a giant scar she had from the dishes she had broken. She was traumatized.
A pretty good substitute reason for not wanting to do the dishes
Lowkey use the excuse, lol.
