The demiurge project.
A project founded a decade after the old world fell and the breakthrough that usher humanities survival to the current era.
It simply asked a question, what if a human could become a cryptic?
And that question then had lead to the creation of dozens of superhuman that now fought for us.
Two days have long pass since my injury and now I was currently sitted in an empty conference room in a light attire.
Positioned before me was a large projection which displayed an ongoing call.
[Commander Ren....it seems you stubbornness rewarded you painfully.]
"Tch!"
Clicking my tongue in annoyance at the anonymous caller on the other side, I crossed my arms. The caller was my boss and the person I've grown to hate the most in years. The reason was quiet long but in simple words she was a cruel woman.
"Just cut to the chase and get the business ranning."
[Woah now you seem motivated all of the sudden.]
"Stop talking to me as if I'm you friend." I snapped noticing her causal tone.
[Fine...."
With those words I could finally send everything was back on track as I leaned back into the chair for the briefing.
[Fifteen hours ago, we received reports of strange sounds coming from within an abandoned school in district 1 of Argon city.... normally I'll left this kind of crap to the police but....]
With a pause, a picture of a worn out school appeared on the projectiles. As first it seems everything was ordinary just a simple abandoned property but...
"Blood."
Observing the bloody pixels of the site, my expression shifted.
[As you have seen, this section is too concerning to leave to those incompetent lots, so I want you and you team on that site ASAP]
"Understood."
As I responded, the call was cut and the projectile was cut of, indicating it was time for me to take my leave. The coordinates and more details would be sent to my teams so with a light stretch while making sure I didn't stress my wounds I climbed up the stairs leading to the exits of the conference hall and pushing the door open I found Isis leaning against the wall waiting for me.
"You're done."
She furrowed noticing this this meeting was shorter than usual.
"Did you and Lady Therese have a fight by chance?"
Looking at me with suspection she inquired.
"No." I asked without much hesitation and began walking through the hallways.
"Then.."
"Another mission..it wasn't much for her to brother about so their nothing wrong."
"Mission huh!"
Tilting her head she exclaimed as her expression grew somewhat grim. Silent for a while I found her gaze focused on my abdomen were my wounds were mostly positioned.
"I won't pass this one out."
I could see hint of disagreement on her face as she prepared to argue but...
"You already know the island's tech is amazing, with that my wounds are almost healed.. I'm confident I can handle onfield missions."
"You can participate in missions without going with us." She retorted.
"Tech be it communication one's aren't always reliable so I prefer manuel command."
Seeing I wasn't bugling, she rolled her eyes in acceptance and said nothing more.
"You know Isis I'm beginning to think you care about me." I suddenly snarled at her causing her to look me up and down before walking away without turning back.
Maybe I was wrong, I thought cracking my stiff neck and watching her leave me behind.
Normally I would have called her back begging her to wait for me but now I had a mission to prepare for so I needed to visit the armory a few distance from the building I was currently in.
-----------------
Slayers island, an isolated piece of land floating on the seas, eastward of Argon city. This place was my home and also home to the numerous Demiurge that populated the earth. Well calling it home for them wasn't quite right..it was more like a prison with a twenty four hours surveillance with me as the warden whom ccasionally walked them out.
Ofcourse it wasn't as bad as I made it sound. Both I and them were treated ranther well and for the demiurge some even lived with their families on their island.
My boss, Lady Theresa and the overseers of this island and the organization that owned it was one whom believed in mutual benefit. Prove you worth and she would reward you as such. She was a bitch...but a principal one I guess.
"I forgot to go over the previous battle logs."
Walking across the streets of the urban town within the Island, I sighed.
True be told I wasn't as much of a human as I wanted to believe...I was a shackle that kept the demiurges in check with my unquie constitution but that was all I could do.
My physical stats were slightly above my age and the average human. I was superhuman in some extend, how I didn't know but what I did no was I didn't hold a candle to the likes of Isis whole could slice apart whole skyscaper with ease.
In short I couldn't face the kind of enemies they faced and as a commander I wasn't even suppose to. I was just supposed to gave instruction to make their battles go smooth. So want I needed wasn't strength but intelligence and a cunning mindset.
I was trying my best by going through all the battles I and my team had gone through the couple of weeks to atleast identity the common behavior patterns of cyptics but it seems I was so tired I had missed a days of that.
Sighing one's more in disappointment I arrived infornt of large cube shaped budding filled with demiurges and human going back and forth.
How I could differentiate originally human from demiurge even thou the mostly looked the same was one again due to my bodies constitution.
It was weird in the fact that I didn't understand how it worked but the gears in my brain operated as such. If I could have a more indepth explanation it would be how humans could identify the different characteristics of animal and have them groups.
A lion was a mammal and a lizard, a reptile but there were both animals.
I doubted my explanation made much sense but all I was trying to say was Demiurge were humans but they had somethings, be it abstract or physical characteristics that differentiate them as such.
