[ Goblin drops an item: Dirty Loincloth ]
[ Achievement acquired "First Kill!" ]
[ ??? Levels up to level 1 to level 3 ]
[ +6 status points obtained ]
A bunch of holographic interfaces appeared right in front of his eyes, covering the corpse of the goblin that was slowly disappearing with its bright light and amazing information. Leveling up to 3 is a great start. Though it wasn't planned, it is still good news. With this, he will be able to spend his status points on his stats.
"Earning 6 status points immediately is a blessing!"
There are 6 statuses that you can use your point with. Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma.
Amongst all those statuses, Dexterity and Wisdom are the most important in the early game.
Dexterity makes you nimble, able to make you get out of tough situations by being flexible, and evading attacks easily.
While Wisdom makes you increase your perception and insight, making you see further and clearer. Makes it easy to notice small details like traps too.
Spending points on STR will be pointless as an archer because it doesn't matter. The bow does the damage for you, as long as you have enough strength to pull it back, you can easily defeat enemies without relying much on STR.
INT is something else, it increases your magic points. Making you able to use magic more often, and could lengthen the duration of the magic spell. Unfortunately, Archers won't be able to use magic during the early stages of Infinite Dungeon.
In this world, Magic is rare. Not everyone can have mana to produce magical spells. If they force it, they'll collapse or even worse, die from mana exhaustion. I learned that the hard way when I played Infinite Dungeon for the first time. I tried to use spells that require mana without spending many points on INT and it killed my character. The way they described it was graphic, it was written that the character bleeds out from every orifice and their veins explode. Igh… So horrifying, I don't wanna experience that.
"Alright, Let's start with… putting 3 points on DEX. Then, put 2 points on WIS. I have 1 status point left so… 1 for STR."
I said earlier that investing in STR as an archer is worthless, but this is real life now. I can use my punches if I ever run out of arrows, that way, I won't immediately become useless. Investing in STR could help in an emergency escape.
"Alright, I invested all of my status points. Let's see if there are some changes."
Nash jumps, reached pretty high compared to a normal human's jump. Not Olympic level yet though. Still, it's a significant improvement. Time to test the other one.
He slowly peeks his head at one of the rock formations, in hopes of seeing an enemy he should avoid or a path he can go to escape the fourth floor. His breathing is shaky, and cold sweat drips to the floor. An intense atmosphere. If he hadn't instinctively moved his hand back then, he probably would've died to the goblin.
Across the cave, is another goblin. Searching around the area looking dumbfounded and lost. An easy target, however, it is better to avoid it instead of going for confrontation. Even as a level 3 player, fighting a goblin is risky. Not just because of their high AGI, but there's a chance that one of them has a skill that calls out other goblins around the area.
That's how most beginners die during their first encounter with goblins on the fourth floor of the Infinite Dungeon. Which is why…
𝙏𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙜!
The sound of a bowstring being released.
𝙏𝙝𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙝!
The goblin turns its head around due to the sound it heard from behind
𝙏𝙝𝙪𝙘𝙠! 𝙎𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙨𝙝!
Only to be met with an arrowhead coming in contact with its head. Due to the velocity of the arrow, the goblin wouldn't have enough time to evade the oncoming arrow passing through the air and shortening the distance between the air and its head.
The goblin fell to the ground and slowly disappeared from existence.
[ Goblin drops an item: Small Club ]
"A goblin's normal weapon. Unfortunately, the durability is too low, might as well turn it into sticks."
"Crafting table."
Nothing appeared.
"Crafting table…? Crafting table!"
He kept repeating the same words but nothing happened. Eventually, he stopped.
"I can access inventory but I can't access the crafting table. This doesn't make sense."
In Infinite Dungeon, you can access a crafting table mechanic to craft items from the ingredients you gathered from fighting enemies, looting chests, or actively mining, foraging, or chopping things down.
In this case, dismantling the club will turn it into sticks. For a small club, it will give you 12 wooden sticks once dismantled. You only need 1 wooden stick to create a torch, alongside cloth and coal, or other items that you can start a fire with.
However, the fact that he cannot use a crafting table means that he'll have to manually dismantle and create a torch. This is… Yeah, they weren't lying about the realistic mode.
After obtaining the club, he puts it inside his inventory.
"...Let's try to eliminate all of the goblins around this area."
A message interface popped up.
[ First Mission: kill 5 goblin-type enemies
2/5 goblins killed.
Reward: 2 Minor Health Potions, 50 Gold ]
"Woah..! 50 Gold?! That covers an entire week's necessity!"
His adrenaline slowly increases, and his excitement and thrill rise. The thought of being rewarded after killing monsters is comforting, just like how it was when he was playing the game. The only difference now is that he's playing as himself, every action isn't caused by buttons but by his own decisions.
"Alright… Let's do this!"
As long as he keeps doing what he was doing earlier, he'll be able to successfully achieve the first mission and get his rewards easily. He breathes heavily from excitement as he holds his bow, his fingers moving to get used to the feeling of holding an unfamiliar bow. Though he wielded a bow before, it was more modernized compared to this hunter's bow. The difference between the modern bow and the hunter's bow is the materials used to create the foundation and the mechanism.
After wandering cautiously, he found 2 goblins talking to each other in gibberish, or that's what he at least heard them doing. They were in front of a forked cave, two cave holes that go the opposite way of the other. Nash instantly crouches on a large slab of rock, he prepares two arrows. Placing one on the ground while the other rests at his bow.
"I should think more about this. They're pretty far, I can't accurately eliminate them from this distance with this type of bow."
The hunting bow is a recurve, it is traditionally a bow made for speed and precision. However, it relies on the strength of the archer. Though lightweight and easy to transport, it requires precise techniques. Due to its short size, it needs less distance against a target. What an unforgiving start for an archer, the RNG sucks!
Nash breathes deeply and closes his eyes as he focuses. Ambushing the goblins is too risky, getting close might result in his death. Shooting them at this distance would be ineffective, they'll hear the loud sound created by shooting his arrow towards them and grant them an opportunity to evade it. The only option left is to get closer to them.
"Or get them closer to me."
