A New Home and A Night of Revelry
Einar ended up buying a plot of land on the outskirts of Ottery St. Catchpole. Although he was also interested in a place near Hogwarts, after all, he would have the old man Dumbledore watching all the time if he lived around there. Therefore, he chose a spot near a river in a very peaceful area. It seemed there was only one family of neighbors nearby, and the others were quite far away.
The reason he accepted having a family of neighbors was because he chose the best spot by the river, where he could fish if he wanted or swim when it was hot. Besides, he didn't mind having neighbors as long as they weren't annoying.
The land only cost him 1000 galleons, while building a good-quality, medium-sized house cost another 800.
Einar didn't mind spending money as long as it meant having a comfortable home. He also spent another 600 galleons on top-tier magical devices.
It seemed the builders made sure to connect his fireplace to the Floo Network, so now he had a way to travel quickly. Traveling through the fireplace was something that interested Einar, as he wouldn't have to travel by horse for days to reach the other side.
The builders would only take a day to finish building and furnishing, something that made Einar happy. Then, he left the bank content and headed to buy a wand.
Although he believed it would be quite useless since using magic with his hands was easier and simpler, he went anyway.
Upon arriving at the shop, he looked at the sign that said Ollivanders and entered.
Cling-Cling. That was the sound the door bells made when he walked in.
"Oh, well, if you don't take off your mask, I can't tell if it's a familiar face or not," Ollivander said as he peeked between the shelves. "If you'd be so kind, please. After all, I can't sell a wand without seeing the person's face," the old man said kindly.
Einar calmly removed his mask, revealing his face to the old man, who looked a bit surprised before speaking.
"I don't remember selling you a wand, young man, so either you're here to replace yours or you never had one," the old man said quickly.
"I never had one," Einar replied, putting his mask back on.
"I see. Though your mask is quite interesting," Ollivander said, eyeing Einar's mask with curiosity. As a wandmaker, he could feel how magical and powerful the materials were, though he couldn't identify exactly what they were.
"It's a special mask so one of my powers doesn't destroy everything around me," Einar replied easily.
"I see... then, which hand do you usually use?" Ollivander asked quickly while pulling out a measuring tape.
"Both," Einar answered.
Ollivander looked at him with interest before measuring both of Einar's arms, not without glancing at his palms.
"You must be quite an experienced warrior to be so young."
"I suppose."
Then Ollivander hurried over to one of the shelves, grabbed a wand, and handed it to Einar.
"Try this one. Holly wood and phoenix feather as its core," he said as he handed over the wand.
Einar simply took it, and as soon as he touched it, the wand started trembling before completely stopping, as if it were just a simple stick.
Seeing this, Ollivander was quickly surprised.
"How strange. It's like it's playing dead to avoid being chosen," he said while looking at Einar. Then he took the wand from his hands and went off to fetch another.
"Let's see, this one is hawthorn wood with unicorn hair."
Once again, when Einar took the wand, it behaved just like the previous one.
"Well, let's try this one. Fir wood and dragon heartstring," he said, handing him another.
This time, the wand seemed to respond better, as it did nothing when Einar touched it.
"Give it a little wave," Ollivander said. So Einar did, and a flame shot up to the ceiling, destroying it and letting in a stream of sunlight.
"Well, it seems we're getting close," Ollivander said, taking the wand back.
"This one is vine wood and dragon heartstring like the previous one. It's quite flexible, 27 centimeters," he said while handing Einar a new wand.
Einar took it a bit tiredly, and as soon as he touched it, he felt a connection with the wand or rather submission, as if it was greeting its master.
"Looks like that's the one, then. It's not like there are legendary wands made by some ancestor of mine, hidden away waiting for their chosen wielder," Ollivander said with a smile.
Einar didn't understand the reference but simply smiled at the joke.
"How much does it cost, then?" he asked.
"Oh, it's 7 Galleons," Ollivander said calmly.
Einar was surprised at how cheap it was, as a wizard's staff in his world cost much more. So, he simply took out the money, paid, and left the shop with a new wand.
"Now I have to learn some magic from this world if I want to be a teacher. Although I also have to see if I can teach magic from my world... But it's better to be careful," Einar said as he walked among the shops, buying whatever caught his interest.
He bought a flying broomstick, some sweets, and all kinds of new things that caught his attention. Then he went to the library to buy every book they had, something that surprised the shopkeepers, who quickly and excitedly went to fetch every book they had available.
Obviously, he wouldn't have enough money, so he went to a hidden place to call Dren to bring him more money and then went to Gringotts to exchange more Galleons.
The goblins, upon seeing him, greeted him cheerfully and exchanged the Galleons as if they were running a race as fast as they could, looking at him like a god of wealth as he left.
That's how, in one day, Einar ended up spending 15,000 Galleons. Something that would put any middle-class family in the red, or even a high-class family would hesitate to spend.
After that, he went to spend time at the bar to gather information while having some drinks.
Many of the drinks were quite bad, but there was one that caught his attention called Firewhisky. When the bartender Tom served it to him, he warned him to be careful.
When he drank it, he felt warmth spreading throughout his body, quite intense, but Einar endured it easily.
"This is pretty good," Einar said with a smile.
"Serve me more, bartender. And today's rounds are on me," Einar said cheerfully as the others in the bar cheered with excitement.
At that point, a party broke out in the bar where everyone drank happily. Even Einar ended up well-mingled with the groups of wizards.
"So that damn dark wizard took those kids. Of course, me and the other Aurors managed to catch him and made him eat spells everywhere," said one of the men at the table Einar had joined.
"So you're what they call an Auror?" Einar asked while taking another sip of alcohol.
"Of course not. I'm a bounty hunter. But since I was alone, I had to call them. Of course, they gave me half of the reward since they did all the work," the man said, laughing.
"Bounty hunter, that's cool, man. Tom, serve another round at this table," Einar said, having grown familiar with everyone present.
"Hey, Einar, why do you wear that weird mask even while drinking?" asked one of the women present.
"It's because my words are a bit special, and I might end up blowing the roof off," Einar said while having fun.
"Really? Then show us," said some of the drunkards.
"Please, don't destroy my bar," Tom said as he approached with a bottle of Firewhisky and several of mead.
"Come on, Tom. You don't really believe he can do that, do you?" said one of the drunkards.
"Alright. Tom, if I break anything, I'll pay for it," Einar said.
"Come on, Einar, show us," the others said.
"Well, but you'll have to pay every cent if what you say is true," Tom said.
"Hahaha, don't worry. Watch: FUS RO DAH!"
With his shout aimed at one of the walls, he made it shatter into pieces, revealing Diagon Alley through it. Meanwhile, the people on the other side looked in with interest.
Everyone fell silent for a few seconds.
"Wow, that was awesome!" everyone shouted with excitement as the party continued, while Tom looked at the destroyed wall of his bar with regret.
"Don't worry, Tom, it's nothing a repair spell can't fix," said one of the patrons while moving his wand, making the wall return to normal.
"Hey, that was amazing," Einar said, looking at the magic.
"Hey, this is taught at Hogwarts in third year," said the wizard, a bit proudly.
"Really? I never went to Hogwarts. The magic I know is pure destruction and battle," Einar said with a grin.
"With just the power of your shout, you could be pretty tough to fight. Why don't you join the bounty hunters with us?" said one of the men.
"Tsk. I already accepted that old man's offer to be a teacher," Einar said with a bit of regret since being a bounty hunter wasn't very different from what he did in his world.
"Wait, you're going to be a professor at Hogwarts?" asked one of the men. "Don't tell me it's for Defense Against the Dark Arts," he asked quickly.
"Yes, why?" Einar asked with interest.
"It's nothing, but it's better if you're careful. Every teacher of that class doesn't last more than a year," the man said. "Everyone says it's cursed."
"Don't worry. That curse couldn't handle me and committed suicide," Einar said with a smile, but those present didn't believe him, thinking it was just the rambling of a drunkard.
"When a year passes, then you can come with us," the bounty hunter said cheerfully.
"If I stop being a teacher, sure. No, even during the time I'm free from school, I can join you guys," Einar said quickly.
"Then we'll be waiting for you," they all said as the party continued until late at night.
So, Einar had to ask for a room at the inn, and the next day, he went to Hogwarts to let them know he had bought a house.
