Chapter 4 - New Beginnings

New Beginnings

After accepting the job as a professor, Headmaster Dumbledore allowed Einar to stay in the professors' quarters for a few days, as classes had ended. The next day, only the Headmaster, Hagrid, and Filch, who lived there, would remain at the school.

Meanwhile, the other professors would return to their homes.

"Maybe I need to buy some things from this world, especially a house. I wonder if they'll accept septims. Since they're made entirely of gold, it's possible they will," Einar said as he looked around the room where he would be staying.

It was quite a luxurious room, with a furnished bedroom that included a large wardrobe and various decorations besides the bed. Additionally, it had an exclusive bathroom and even a living room with a fireplace and a large sofa.

"Dren, come here," Einar said, and immediately, a dark portal appeared in front of him, from which a dremora emerged, looking at Einar with surprise and quickly kneeling before him.

"Master, this servant is pleased to see you well," he said quickly while lowering his head.

The dremora, with his red skin and horns, looked like a demon, and technically, he was. They were a dark race, and their princes were their rulers.

"It seems it worked. Alright, stop that. First of all, can the Daedric Princes follow you here?" Einar asked quickly.

"No, master. When you were removed, I was also sent to a place suitable for me. And surely, the others bound to you by contract experienced the same thing," Dren replied quickly.

"Another place? Where were you sent?" Einar asked, intrigued.

"I do not know, master. But it's even more comfortable for me. And it seems I am stronger than those who live there," Dren responded quickly.

"Alright. Do you have my things?" Einar asked, confident everything would be fine.

After all, dremora or daedra were quite resilient creatures.

"Yes, master. Do you want me to bring everything?"

"No. Just my daily clothes and money," Einar said quickly. "Also, give me some small enchanted weapons," he added swiftly for safety.

Dren quickly summoned a portal and entered through it. After a few seconds, he emerged carrying several bags in his hands.

He promptly handed the money to Einar and then looked toward the wardrobe. He headed there with the other bag to arrange the clothes.

"I don't know how much things cost here, but maybe ten thousand septims will be enough for everything," he said while taking out some of the gold coins.

Then, after Dren finished organizing the clothes in the wardrobe and left, Einar quickly changed into more comfortable clothing and went to sleep.

...….

The next day, Einar remembered to ask Dren if he knew any way to speak other languages.

Luckily for him, there was Daedric magic that could help, so Dren enchanted a ring to allow him to understand and speak all languages.

Then, Einar went to find Dumbledore to ask him to arrange a guide for shopping.

If he was going to live in this world, he needed basic information. And what better than books?

Obviously, Hogwarts had hundreds of books, but they were mostly for learning about magic, nothing about modern culture.

If he wanted to learn about the modern world, he had to see the surroundings for himself.

That's how he ended up traveling with Hagrid, who Einar learned was not a giant but a half-giant.

Although the friendly Hagrid asked him not to tell anyone since the wizarding world tended to be a bit racist.

But Einar doubted to say that it was obvious at a glance. However, it was better to stay quiet.

Especially because where Einar came from, racism also existed, so it was easy to understand.

"This place is called The Leaky Cauldron. It's the entrance to Diagon Alley," Hagrid explained as they both stepped out of the fireplace used for transportation.

A fireplace that was quite a novel and useful travel method for Einar, as he was used to traveling on horseback for days to reach other places.

"A bar? Seems like a good place to gather information later," Einar said, looking at the people drinking calmly while chatting.

"Come on, follow me," Hagrid said, leading Einar to the corner of the shop.

They entered some sort of alley with a garbage bin and a wall, so there was no further path.

Then, Hagrid tapped a brick three times, and the wall began to open, forming an entrance.

"This is Diagon Alley," Hagrid said proudly as he urged Einar to enter with him.

Einar looked around with interest, as it was the first time he had seen so many shops. After all, the largest he had seen were some Khajiit bazaars or traveling merchants.

"This is quite unique," Einar said, observing magical things everywhere.

"Dumbledore said you wanted to exchange some gold and then buy a new wand. Ollivanders is over there; you can buy your wand there. Come on, I'll take you to Gringotts and then I'll leave. I've got lots of things to take care of now that the kids are gone," Hagrid said as he started walking.

After a couple of minutes, they arrived at a rather abstract building where the doors were guarded by armored goblins.

"Those armors resemble the Dwemer's," Einar said, staring intently at the guards.

The guards, sensing Einar's gaze, quickly looked in his direction with anger.

But upon observing Einar, a primitive fear arose within them, causing them to tremble slightly until Einar shifted his gaze and walked into the bank. The guards let out a slight sigh, although, just in case, they alerted their chief.

Upon entering, there were rows of desks with goblins attending to each of them.

Hagrid led him to one of them and quickly spoke.

"Hello, my friend here wants to exchange some gold," Hagrid said quickly.

Meanwhile, the goblin simply glanced at them out of the corner of his eye and spoke.

"Exchanges are done down the hallway," he said without even looking at them again, pointing in a direction.

"Can you go on your own?" Hagrid asked, as he had things to do, to which Einar nodded and let him leave while he walked toward where the goblin had indicated.

He quickly approached one of the counters.

"I'm here to exchange gold for the coins used here. Can you help me?" Einar asked, looking at the goblin, who raised his gaze toward him and, like the guards, felt a slight tremor. But, acting professionally, he quickly spoke.

"Of course, wizard sir. How much gold do you wish to exchange?" he said quickly with a businesslike smile.

"For now, whatever this is worth," Einar said as he placed a bag of septims on the table.

The goblin opened the bag and looked inside, surprised as he took out a coin.

"These coins, although different, have a magical process comparable to ours. No, they're even better. The details, the weight, the purity..." the goblin said as he examined the coin with enthusiasm, forgetting the fear he had felt upon seeing Einar.

After all, the septims were created by an empire where magic was the norm. To prevent counterfeiting, they surely had the best blacksmiths and mages crafting these coins.

"Ahem," Einar cleared his throat to bring the goblin back to his senses.

"Sorry, sir. I apologize for my rudeness. We will buy your gold coins, each one for a gold galleon. How does that sound?" the goblin asked.

Einar wasn't stupid. He knew the septims were worth more by the greedy look in the goblin's eyes. But he didn't care much since he had plenty of money. After all, he held several titles and had explored many ruins to the point of having to throw away gold to carry the enchanted weapons from those places.

"Alright," Einar said easily, to which the goblin rejoiced and quickly ran off while filling the bag of septims that was almost as big as him.

He then returned with a small bag.

"This is a bag enchanted with expansion magic. All your money is inside. It's a gift from our manager. You can also choose to open a vault if you wish. We will keep your money safe there. After all, Gringotts is the safest place in the wizarding world," the goblin said quickly, trying to promote the bank's services.

Einar didn't pay attention to the vault offer since, after all, his belongings were with Dren, an immortal servant with a magical contract with him. But he was interested in the bag.

"Can these bags only carry money or also objects?" he asked with interest.

"They can carry anything, even living beings. You just have to remember to leave a hole for air to enter," the goblin said in a salesman-like tone. "If you want to buy a bigger one, we have various sizes. This is the smallest, but it has the size of a room inside. Above all, they have the Ministry's legal seal, so it's legal to carry it everywhere without getting into trouble."

"Alright. How much is the largest one you have and what size is it?" Einar asked quickly.

The goblin quickly smiled upon hearing that and spoke in a negotiating tone.

"The largest one is the size of a mansion and costs only a thousand galleons," the goblin said quickly.

"Alright, give me one. And I also wonder if you know anyone who sells houses," Einar said again.

"Of course, sir. Gringotts Bank also deals with the sale of houses and properties. Please, follow me, and I'll show you our catalog," the goblin said excitedly, quickly leading Einar to a more private area.
