"You aren't joking, are you?" Sirzechs asked in a slightly serious tone as he couldn't believe what he heard.
"I am not.... I can't just let Alex-kun's bloodline die out... that's the least I could do for him..." Serafall said in a slightly nostalgic tone as her eyes, which were gazing at the ceiling, became dazed.
'Alexander Valefor...That's a name I haven't heard for a while...' Sirzechs thought as he paused briefly.
Grayfia, on the other hand, bit her lips as she was thrust into a whirlwind of memories.
She felt ashamed whenever she thought of 'him'.... Because, in the end, she caused his death.....
...
"So what do you want me to do then?" Rin asked helplessly as he gazed at Sona, who was blushing in shame.
She was the one who came to him to break the engagement off, but in the end, she hadn't even appropriately prepared for the occasion.
Sona understood that she was just being a bother.
"P-Please play a Rating game with me!" Sona said thoughtfully as she gazed at Rin, who was surprised by her words.
Suddenly, Sona felt as if the atmosphere had become a little cold as Rin no longer had the amicable smile on his face.
"Huh?" Rin's voice was plain, lacking the previously warm and gentle aura, which made Sona feel a bit of trepidation.
Even Rias could notice the sudden shift in the atmosphere.
Sona knew something was wrong, but her mind was muddled, and she couldn't form any thoughts. So she doubled down and tried to convince Rin to participate in the Rating game while forgetting that she was the one who wanted the engagement cancelled. She was making him go through all this trouble even when he was willing to withdraw.
"Rating games can be used to overrule any contracts or decisions made in the underworld, as long as- "
"Why should I?" Rin asked in a bored tone as he rested the side of his face against his palm. His red eyes bore into Sona, making her feel nervous.
"I-I " Sona stuttered as she couldn't form any words there was just something about his gaze that made her shiver, she couldn't maintain eye contact so Sona opted to look down to avoid embarrassing herself.
"Let me stop you right there.... You should know why and how the Valefor family was killed, right? " Rin interrupted Sona as he released an exasperated sigh while his gaze bored into a nervous Sona.
" T-The remnants of the Old Satan faction..." Sona stuttered as she couldn't meet Rin's gaze.
"Then, do you understand what will happen to me once my identity is exposed in such a grand manner?" Rin asked blandly while he had a sarcastic smile on his face, and Sona's eyes widened in disbelief.
'Death!' That thought rang in the minds of Rias and Sona, making both of them pale a little. They had nearly been responsible for letting Rin die if he had agreed to the Rating game.
Sona panicked as she understood how selfish and naive her thoughts were, and he might thinking of her as a cruel and cold bitch.
"N-No, I—" Sona wanted to explain, but Rin interrupted her. He continued in a plain and emotionless tone, and his words seemed like sharp knives embedding into her heart, filling her with shame and guilt.
"It seems I was wrong about you.....In the end, you are nothing but a selfish, spoiled and snobbish woman who doesn't care about anyone or anything other than yourself....." Rin's words were plain. They contained neither anger nor disdain, but there was a hint of disappointment that made Sona bite her lips in shame.
'Selfish'
'Snobbish'
'Spoiled'
'You only care about yourself'
Rin's words rang out in Sona's mind repeatedly, making her feel suffocated because what he said was true because, from the beginning, she hadn't once tried to think about Rin's position.
She only cared about getting her so-called freedom back ...
.....
*Tsss!*
A sharp hissing sound disrupted the sudden cold atmosphere in the room as Rias awkwardly gazed at the two people who seemed to be in a confrontation.
She had accidentally fiddled with the Cola can in her nervousness, causing it to open. Still, it was a nice distraction because it appeared to have broken the tense atmosphere into something.
"Chilled Cola is still the best ~" Rias said with a smile as she sipped the drink with a refreshing smile.
Rias turned towards Sona with a smile as she tapped her foot with hers, making Sona wake up from her daze.
"Sona, I'll take over from now since I am on official business ~ " Rias gave a professional smile to Rin as she promptly diffused the situation and hoped to switch his attention from Sona's blunder as she didn't want to see her childhood friend suffering so much.
"I-I am sorry for my rudeness.." Sona said in a low tone akin to a whisper as she quickly got up and left the room with her head down.
Rias thought Sona was sad and crying, but she failed to notice the latter's slightly flushed face.
...
"Haaah! Haaah! " Sona was panting as she gazed at her flushed and embarrassed face in the mirror.
There were two reasons she left the room.
The first one was because she felt guilty being in Rin's presence and felt that he wouldn't want to be in her presence either, so she left to not be a bother in whatever Rias and Rin were going to discuss.
Second was ... Because her panties were drenched....
