Chapter 3 - 3. Fine.....I'll Do It Myself...

"I-I didn't prepare any agreement contract .." Sona said nervously, as she really hadn't thought that things would go so smoothly.

She used her big brain to craft a perfect plan, but in the end, everything was for nought, and all she had to do was talk.

Was she doing the right thing?

Sona couldn't help but ask herself as she gazed at her soon-to-be ex-fiance. He was handsome and had a pleasant personality, and because he was half-blood, he wouldn't be as stuck up as the heirs from the pillar houses.

And he didn't seem interested in her family status either.

He viewed her as Sona, not as Sona Sitri.

He was a perfect Fiancée candidate. The only downside was her not knowing him, which could be solved by meeting often.

But in the end, she cleared all those messy thoughts as her gaze became firm. Her freedom was more important than anything.

Rin was not the person she chose, but he was forced upon her, and she had no interest in relationships or marriage for now.

She wanted to work towards achieving her goal, and Sona convinced herself that she was making the correct decision and wouldn't regret it.

....

"That's all right. There is a printing shop near here. We can draft a contract there or write a new demonic contract," Rin said calmly as he smiled at the two young women who seemed awkward.

Sona felt ashamed for her petty thoughts and behaviour, while Rias felt secondhand embarrassment because of her.

Getting dumped by your fiance is not a pleasant experience, but despite this, Rin was so amicable and calm.

He showed zero negative emotions, making Sona second guess her choice.

Son and Rias were brought up in the underworld, so to them, breaking an engagement is much more serious than someone like Rin.

If Sona breaks off the engagement, the Valefor family's prestige will be impacted, and Rin will be ridiculed in devil society.

But despite this humiliation, Rin was willing to politely accommodate Sona's wishes without caring about the status or power he might gain by marrying her.

Sona and Rin were correct about one thing: Rin really wanted to get this troublesome matter over with, so he was indeed happy, and his positive attitude was genuine.

Rin didn't care about the prestige of the Valefor family, so he felt zero discomfort at breaking off the engagement.

The dead don't care about prestige, and Rin doesn't consider himself a part of the Valefor family...

.....

"Actually, our situation is a bit complicated..." Sona said in a slightly guilty tone as she gazed at Rin with a complicated gaze.

Her family hadn't permitted her to break the engagement. This was all done personally by her.

She didn't think her parents would agree to break this engagement because the Valefor family had helped her family and had done a lot of work to prepare for her sister's ascension to Leviathan.

They had shed blood for her sister on the battlefield, and for their services, all they asked for was a marriage contract between the two clans to strengthen the bond.

If the Sitri family broke the marriage contract, it would be like they had no honour. Sona didn't think even her sister would agree to such a matter because she had heard that this contract was signed on behalf of her sister's friend, who had died on the battlefield trying to protect her.

Sona knew how angry her sister was when she found out about the Valefor family being killed off by the remnants of the Old Satan faction. After learning that there was someone like Rin who could continue the bloodline, her sister was relieved.

She wasn't supposed to come here to meet Rin, but she secretly tagged along with Rias without letting her sister know.

Sona knew her sister was a bit overprotective and like a sis con, but in this matter, she didn't think Serafall would help her since she held that promise in great regard...

.....

"Do you think Sona would sit tight without doing anything?" Sirzechs said in a nonchalant tone as he browsed the paperwork in his hands, which had been related to the Valefor family since an heir had been found.

Serafall was also present when he gave his sister the Devil pieces, a gift to Rin Valefor.

Every High-class devil was supposed to receive them when they came of age, but Rin wasn't able to because he was not in the underworld, and his existence was concealed by the Valefor clan.

Despite their efforts, Devils were still stuck up and Rin's case although sad was such a case.

Whether he would decide to live an everyday life or take up the position of Clan head was not their decision to make, especially since Serafall, the person most involved, had decided to let Rin make his decision.

"Haah!.... So-tan would most likely go with Rias-chan to meet Rin-chan and try to cancel the engagement....."Serafall sighed in a frustrated manner as she leaned back against the sofa and gazed blankly at the ceiling.

"So you aren't going to stop her?" Sirzechs asked quizzically while not raising his gaze from his work.

He, too, was in a similar predicament, so he could understand Serafall's predicament.

"I want to... But I won't because if So-tan hates this engagement and grows to resent Rin-chan, then it wouldn't be fair to him. If it really doesn't work out... Then I'll just do it myself ...."

"!!!!!!" (Sirzechs )
