Chapter 8 - Alters of an Alter

Nezu was in his office, looking over the footage of the fight between Asterios and the heroes. He knew that even if the HPSC did learn about the Midoriya System now, they wouldn't be able to try to recruit him into their little brainwashed private army. They would need to cover up All Might's fight with AFO, plus they would also be super busy dealing with AFO's criminal empire for at least the next two to three years. By that time, Midoriya will be 12 years old, and with Nezu knowing all their dirty secrets, they won't want to cross that line. Still, getting Night Eye and Gran Torino to leave the Midoriya family alone will be difficult. They are two of the most paranoid people Nezu has ever met. Still, trying to convince All Might to tell them to leave Izuku and his Alters be could be a solid solution. Anyway, Nezu was super excited about the conclusion he came to after asking Asterios what he remembered.

An hour ago, Asterios asked, "What do I remember?" Nezu nodded, trying to think of the correct words to explain what he wanted. After their first interaction, Nezu quickly deduced that Asterios was what was known as a child altar—an altar that embodied and represented a simpler time in the system's life. Oftentimes, they take their memories from a time before their life-changing events began.

"Do you remember anything other than your mommy?" Nezu asked, trying to fish for information from the mind of basically a toddler. Asterios's face scrunched up in that childlike way when children think really hard about something. "I remember a dark place with never-ending walls, and sometimes little monsters would jump out of the darkness and attack me, so I would smash them. Then one day, a little monster smashed me. Then I was in the shrinking halls. I got scared and ran outside. That's all I can remember."

Nezu nodded; he theorized that Asterios had a fear of hallways or, specifically, narrow or enclosed spaces. This could be a manifestation of stenophobia or claustrophobia, which are phobias characterized by an intense and irrational fear of confined spaces. This is why they were in one of the UA training fields.

Flashbacks over, Nezu sat looking at a picture of weapons projected by Emiya. They were black axes used by the Minotaur, also known as Asterios, from Greek mythology. Nezu had been told by Emiya that by reading the history of a weapon, he could also see the history of the weapons that came into contact with the analyzed weapon. Because of this, Emiya gained access to a large assortment of random weapons, some powerful, some mediocre, and some downright impossible. A large number of them were very taxing on Emiya's stamina, so all of them couldn't be projected currently. However, these axes were two of the weapons he could actually project. They weren't very special; just better than normal weapons for the most part. This confirmed Nezu's theory that Asterios wasn't Izuku's altar but Emiya's. Both Izuku and Emiya shared the same memories, but they had different personalities and characteristics.

Nezu began to look through all the other weapons listed by Emiya as part of his arsenal. Each one represented a possibility—a person Nezu might get to meet. Not like Mordred, who was a manifestation of a child's imagination, but potentially copies of historical figures. Who would he most want to meet? Who would be an interesting person to discuss philosophy and reality with?

As Nezu looked down at one of the unnamed weapons, he noticed it had a special origin, although there was nothing inherently remarkable about it. Similar to the axes, it was just a strong weapon, but the one who wielded it was the special one. "No, what am I doing?" Nezu sighed in disappointment at himself. He had let his curiosity lead him down the dark paths of his mind—places only monsters would see.

Nezu had a better idea: he wanted to see what kind of positive stimulus might arise. If he spent a decent amount of time researching this figure with his student, perhaps this figure would emerge in the future. It was a possibility, a harmless little experiment. It was unlikely, but it could be possible. Nezu smiled to himself and began to outline next month's history lessons.

For the next couple of days, things were a little hectic. Asterios would often be thrust into the metaphorical driver's seat, as enclosed spaces were one of his triggers—along with dark, long hallways. It took a long time for the other three to learn how to suppress the impulse to switch with him whenever he felt scared. Because of this, for a strange week, the Midoriya System couldn't go home, and that didn't go well for them.

"Wait, are you fading into a flashback? I didn't write a flashback here! Please come back!"

"Good night, Mom," Izuku said as he curled up in bed.

"Good night, baby. Hope you have sweet dreams," Inko replied, shutting off the light and closing the door. The camera slowly panned away from Izuku's window. Suddenly, a loud crashing noise and a roar echoed through the night.

Then, there was TV static. "Finally got you back. I didn't pay for a flashback! I already explained what happened. It's not necessary to flash back for that 10 seconds of information I've already covered. Sigh. Now, back to the story."

Slowly, time began to pass, and many experiences unfolded. Emiya started learning about guns from Snipe. He soon added a gun sword and a gun axe to his arsenal. While they weren't impressive weapons, Emiya was genuinely interested in them.

Mordred participated in several eating contests simply because she wanted free food—no other reason; she was just hungry. Meanwhile, Izuku began researching ways to create a retractable suit to make Asterios more comfortable, as he apparently hated shirts. Mordred jokingly mentioned it was because he had sensitive nipples.

Additionally, all four of them sensed the presence of someone new—almost like a person, but not fully there yet. This was quite exciting for Nezu. His genius experiment, or rather, teaching plan for the system, might finally be bearing fruit.

Nezu decided he wanted to jumpstart the additional personality he had been nurturing. To this end, he commissioned several groups of robots from the support course as a fun extra credit project. He then had Cementoss create a new training ground specifically for his experiment—I mean, test—of assisting a personality that had yet to be properly formed.

Nezu instructed a large group of teachers to prepare for a Renaissance fair, essentially putting everything he had into this venture. His excitement to talk to this new person was so immense that he was willing to invest a significant amount of money into it. He even had Izuku and Inko present, dressed for the occasion. Nezu was determined that his plan would be successful, even if it was the last thing he did.

OK, that's the end of this chapter. It's a little short because it's mostly just filler looking for the next pseudo arc starts. So technically, this is the last chapter of arc one. Yay. This next arc Will basically be just Nezu's Role-playing attempt to get the specific character he wants to manifest to manifest. So It will be interesting. I'm going to try to slow down For this arc so I hope you will enjoy. Peace.
