Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Well... fuck

I immediately raised my arms.

*Boom"

The blow that hit my arms made me widen my eyes as it sent me skidding several feet back.

Coming to a halt, I tried to shake off the soreness that came from my arms from that blow as I ignored the gasps from the crowd behind me.

That lady is damn strong for her size.

I turned my gaze back onto her. She was standing on one foot, with her other leg slightly raised. Her eyes widened quite a bit, probably from the fact that I could take, what I assume was a single leg dropkick from her.

"You're a bit different from those pervs..."

The girl's voice was soft, but laced with suspicion, like she wasn't sure what to make of me.

Hearing this, I realised that this was probably the best time to defuse the situation.

The white-haired girl had clearly misunderstood my stance, thinking that I was one of them. Personally, I don't know how though? I don't think that I have tattoos plastered all over my face. nor do I look like I'm dressed in a black leather jacket or something.

Wouldn't an ordinary person just think that I'm trying to help out?

Or...

Well regardless, I can't control how her brain is wired.

What I have to do now is to just tell her to calm down and then explain the situation clearly.

It's that simple.

We don't need to exacerbate any more misunderstandings. Everything can just end here and we can all go on our merry way...

But...

I didn't say anything, at least not right away.

I flexed my arms a little, reminding myself of the pain of the blow that had already faded away.

I glanced at the goons on the ground and then back at her.

"Well, who'd have thought that things would turn out like this?"

I chose my words carefully, my tone relatively light. I didn't outright deny anything, but I didn't confirm anything either.

Why?

Very simple actually.

She was too strong.

Normal people didn't hit that hard. Nor did they move like that.

If I had not trained so much in the past, with my ability to adapt to any and all phenomena strengthening my physicals to do so, I probably would have gotten knocked out by the first blow.

"Tch... so you are one of them..." The girl dropped into a ready position. "That's fine by me."

I wasn't given any more reprieve as she jumped forwards again. This time however, I was ready, as I easily dodged her straight haymaker with a slight turn to the side.

The blue-eyed girl's eyes widened again in shock. Me, being the nice guy I was, decided that gender equality was very nice. I slammed my knee into her overextended form.

A block with her arm shielded her from the blow, but it didn't stop her from being sent backwards into the air.

I wanted to chase her in such a vulnerable state, but an impromptu upwards kick from her kept me at a distance.

Very athletic. But expected from someone with her physicality.

Regardless, I wasn't in a hurry. Behind me, an invisible dharma wheel trembled.

As she landed, a look of frustration appeared on her face. Wasting no time, she dashed towards me again.

That made me raise a brow.

Her blows were fast. Explosive even. They were way faster than anything I could pull off.

Unfortunately for her(or maybe fortunately for me), pure physicals aren't everything.

Her fist slammed towards my face.

Tap

I deflected it cleanly.

Another strike, much faster than the previous one.

Whoosh

I dodged the the blow with millimeters to spare.

A third blow, a full on roundhouse kick through the momentum of the previous attack this time.

And that was the opening I needed.

A quick palm strike to her ribs stole the breath from her lungs and sent her spiraling backwards.

I held back of course. I wasn't trying to hurt her. Just buy some time...

She landed on both feet, but her breathing was even. Anger was clear in her expression, her eyes narrowing sharply.

"Are you just gonna keep fighting like that?" she snapped.

Hearing that, the corners of my lips couldn't help but turn up slightly.

I understood where she was coming from after all.

It was like playing Yone in League when you had a level advantage, but the enemy Fiora was sidestepping all your Qs and hitting all her vitals.

Absolutely infuriating.

Oh wait- was I projecting? Sorry. Moving on.

It's just that she was clearly trained, no doubt. But her training wasn't that deep. Her attacks were brash and heavily choreographed. There wasn't much thought into each action, clearly her just following her instincts to throw move after move, hoping to hit me.

It made sense though. She looked about my age.

This was why despite her physical advantage, I could still control the flow of the fight.

What? I'm the same age as her?

You don't think that I was slacking off all these years with Mahoraga's ability did you?

Adaptation go brrr

Unfortunately, I think the girl noticed my amusement since she pounced forwards again.

This time however, I noticed something.

That one goon... the one who had his head bashed against the wall...

He was up...

And he had a gun in his hand aimed straight at the girl in white.

My smirk faded.

These goons were the rats of society. He probably thought that he could sneak in a revenge shot against the white-haired girl while her back was turned.

He was a cornered rat.

But a cornered rat bites if you don't finish it off.

His finger tensed on the trigger.

The girl had not noticed.

The entirety of her attention was on me, ready to throw another haymaker.

Shit.

Bang!

The gun went off.

The girl's pupils dilated as she realised...

She had left her back unguarded.

However, just as the bullet could reach her, and just before her blow struck me.

I had already moved.

*Clunk*

The wheel turned.

Reality froze.

And something powerful...

Something... Limitless erupted from my body.

Her blow, which was aimed towards my face stopped just centimeters away from my face.

The bullet, which was aimed towards her back, was blocked a tiny distance away from the arm that I had placed in the way.

The girl didn't even have enough time to realise what had happened before I pushed her away and dashed towards the gangster.

"What the fu-"

He never did finish his words as I slammed my elbow into his nose, instantly KO-ing him again.

Looking down to enjoy my handiwork, I let out a short laugh as I realised the absurdity of the situation.

It seems like even in another world, the Limitless technique would find it's way back to a person with white hair and blue eyes again.

Now... I just had to find a way to stop myself from getting cut in half. Hopefully adaptation would prevent from insta-dying from becoming a kit kat?

I was brought out of my musings by the disbelief in the girl's voice.

"You... you weren't one of them?"

"Well... I never said that I was?"

"But... but..." The girl ruffled her own hair in frustration, letting out groans in the process. "Doesn't that mean that I just attacked an innocent guy?!"

"Well..." I let out a long exaggerated sigh. "To think that I got jumped by some random girl in the street, nearly got my head kicked off, and still had to save her life. What a day."

She groaned into her hands, dropping into a squat. "I can't believe this! I broke the Kaslana's oath!"

Oh? Kaslana's Oath?

For a second, I almost wrote it off.

It sounded exactly like the sort of thing a kid would make up.

But then again... kids don't kick like a 30-ton truck.

In that case was she from some sort of organisation or some sort of hidden, hermit family?

If it was her family, then perhaps Kaslana might be their surname or something? But then again, some oaths might be named based on other people...

Wait...

Superpowered girl...

Potential hidden organisation/family...

Isn't this infamous modern day xianxia thing?

What's next? Will she have some sort of deeply injured and sick elder?

Suddenly, I realised the world might be a lot more complicated than I initially thought.

Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to have so much contact with her?

"Ah right! Weren't you shot just now! We need to get you to the hospital!"

"Oh. About that. It's fine. The bullet missed me."

I lied as easily as I breathed.

"What? There's no way you're fine! I literally SAW the bullet hit-" The girl's voice trailed off as she stared at my arm.

No whole. No blood. Nothing.

Just a perfectly normal arm.

Her mouth hung open, wide enough that a fly could probably go in there.

She pointed at my arm. "But... how?"

I shrugged, "Like I said. The bullet missed."

Her eye twitched. "No way! It was clearly coming straight at you! There's no way-"

"I dunno. I guess you saw wrong?"

The girl's jaw clenched.

I could see it in her eyes. She wanted to argue.

She just wanted to call me out on my bullshit.

She just didn't know how.

Her blue eyes seemed to turn into swirls as steam started coming out of her head.

"Ahh, that doesn't make any sense..."

At that moment, a phone ring interrupted.

The girl was brought out of her confusion by that as she brought out her smartphone.

I didn't know what exactly she saw, but it made her drop onto her knees.

My eyes turned sharp slightly. Were the people behind her monitoring the situation? Were they reprimanding her now?

"No... no way... My delivery's late... WHICH MEANS I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PIZZA??!"

...

This girl was just in a tough fight, and even nearly got shot, and she's mourning her wallet?

She quickly regained her vigour however as she jumped back up. "ARGHHHH! Sorry, but since you're fine, I really got to go."

I didn't even manage to get another word in before she ran out of the alleyway.

As she ran off, something small fell from her pocket, clattering into the pavement.

I wanted to call out to her to tell her about it but she had already zoomed off into the distance.

Oh well. I guess that just means more time for me to get to know the adaptation I just got- Limitless, better.

Sighing, I slowly walked over to the object, quickly recognising it for what it was.

A nameplate.

The lettering was crisply, neatly engraved.

And the name on that nameplate?

Kiana Kaslana
