Chapter 7 - Slime Raid.

Fell stared at the card's information, so that was the demon that comforted her earlier, she stared at the others and was glad they were sleeping.

The Midnight demon might have been kind but she does not know about the rest and she does not want to find out. She knows their awakening is inevitable though and she would have to beat with it.

Fell got off the bed and went to take a bath and once again the warm water was satisfying, and then she went out and dried herself.

She lay on the bed and then closed her eyes sleep immediately taking her into it's custody.

...

Rynellia looked at the report she was given with a troubled expression, she was already having a huge headache. "The slime dungeon seemed to have produced a king and a queen"

Maris raised an eyebrow. "Huh, no wander the mana in the air has been dense lately"

Rynellia sighed, massaging her temples. "Yes, it seems the dungeon's mana has been pooling and condensing, resulting in the birth of a King and Queen Slime. That means the dungeon has likely reached its peak, and it'll overflow soon."

Maris frowned, crossing her arms. "An overflow, huh? That's gonna be a problem. If those slimes spill out into town, it'll be chaos."

Rynellia nodded. "Exactly. I've already sent word to the guild, but they're stretched thin right now. Most high-ranking adventurers are dealing with the bandit activity to the south."

Maris clicked her tongue. "Figures. So, what's the plan?"

The guild master a man with a stern looking expression tapped his fingers on his desk. " By now they are probably level 30, Gold rank adventurers May gain a chance to defeat them but then they would have to fight slimes at the threshold of level 20 including variants."

Maris whistled low. "That's a whole army of slimes to get through just to face the King and Queen. If we don't handle it soon, the overflow will destroy half the town."

Rynellia bit her lip, deep in thought. "We can't afford to wait for reinforcements. We need to form a team and deal with it ourselves."

The guild master glanced at Maris. "You're one of our strongest, Maris. Think you can rally a few Silver and Bronze-ranked adventurers to hold off the overflow while you focus on the King and Queen?"

Maris grinned. "Currently I am not an adventurer, I am carrying out a quest from the mercenary guild to protect Lady Rynellia Dark here."

"That's a complete lie, you are her personal attendant and her childhood friend, You are a second advancement at level 50 and reaching this point at such a young age means you have talent" He said adamantly.

Maris rolled her eyes and gave a playful smirk. "Yeah, yeah, talent and all that. Doesn't mean I'm signing up to be some glorified babysitter. Besides, keeping Rynellia safe is more important than cleaning up slime goo."

Rynellia shot her an annoyed glance. "Oh, come on. You know as well as I do that if the dungeon overflows, there won't be a town left to protect. And that means no safe place for me either."

The guild master grunted, unimpressed. "Stop playing coy, Maris. We both know you're itching for a fight. This is your chance to let loose."

Maris huffed. "Ugh fine but I'm making my own personal party"

The guild master smirked. "As long as they can hold their own, I don't care who you bring. Just make sure they're ready to face a horde of slimes and their variants."

Maris gave a lazy salute. "Got it, boss. I'll pick a few reckless fools."

The next day Maris went to the adventures guild to issue the slime raid quest for anyone who is brave enough to go.

She then scanned the adventurers guild to see who would she would drag along to be in her party.

"Yo, Lynn is there any quest that involves hunting small beasts, I want to start training my Black horned wolf."

A beast tamer?. Maris was surprised that one was found here, usually some beast tamers work in the slave industry and a lot don't profit off from adventuring due to the difficulty of raising beasts.

The beast tamer was a young man with thin framed glasses, green eyes and messy brown hair. He looked like a newbie.

Maris went over and casually placed a hand on his shoulder. "Hey newbie, you're joining my party whether you like it or not."

And that was how Asts was suddenly recruited to join a party without his consent at all. Lynn glared at the woman with a hostile gaze. "The guild rules specifically stated that you cannot force someone to join a party."

Maris smiled and stared into the amber eyes of the fox lady. "Oh and how would that apply to me"

Lynn's face darkened as a strange aura started seep out from her. "Mercenary girl, I would advise you too let the child go while I am giving face to the mercenary guild."

Maris raised an eyebrow, clearly unfazed by the aura. "Oh? Giving face, huh? You think your little trick can scare me?" She smirked, her own presence subtly intensifying, like a coiled serpent ready to strike.

Asts glanced between the two women, visibly nervous. "Um... I-I don't mind joining... if it helps..."

Lynn's eyes softened as she looked at Asts. "Are you sure? You don't have to go along with her just because she's being pushy."

Maris chuckled. "Look, Foxy, I ain't forcing him. Just giving him an opportunity to make a name for himself. Besides, a beast tamer with a Black Horned Wolf? That's rare. He'll be useful."

Lynn huffed but reluctantly backed down, though her glare never left Maris. "If anything happens to him, I'll make sure you regret it."

Maris just gave a careless wave. "Yeah, yeah. Relax. I'll keep the kid alive."

Asts looked uncertain but gave a small nod. "I'll... do my best to help. B-But, um... what are we fighting?"

Maris grinned, patting him on the back hard enough to almost knock him over. "Slimes. Lots of 'em. Including a King and Queen. You up for it?"

Asts adjusted his glasses, this was dangerous but...it would also be an opportunity. "...I see that means Variants may appear, I want to tame a particular slime if I can"

Maris raised an eyebrow. "Tame a slime? You sure about that, kid? Most variants are nasty little buggers."

Asts nodded, determination flickering in his eyes. "I've read about a few unique slime variants that can be controlled if tamed young. If I find one, I want to try. Besides, it'll be good for my wolf to get some battle experience too."

Maris shrugged. "Fine by me. Just don't get too caught up playing zookeeper when we're fighting the big ones."

Asts hesitated but gave a quick nod. "Got it."

...

Fell woke up quite early today, she greeted Yuile and immediately went out to explore the small town of Slick with a jog.

embroidered emblem of a phoenix on the hem. The top was a sleeveless black tunic that fit snugly against her body, with subtle padding around the torso to provide some protection. Over it, she wore a light, dark blue jacket that reached her hips, adorned with pockets and reinforced seams for durability. She also had knee-high leather boots, perfect for long walks and rough terrain.

As Fell jogged through the quiet streets, she noticed a few shop owners setting up for the day. Some gave her curious glances, but most just nodded in acknowledgment. Slick was a small town, and it seemed people were already starting to recognize her after her brief stay.

Her thoughts wandered to the Midnight Demon from last night. She still couldn't quite grasp that such a powerful being had comforted her. It left a strange warmth in her chest, but also a lingering fear. Not all demons would be like that one. Some might be cruel or manipulative.

Lost in thought, Fell almost ran straight into someone. She skidded to a halt and blinked up at a tall man with a rugged appearance, a large sword strapped to his back. He gave her a once-over, clearly confused by her sudden stop.

"Oi, kid, watch where you're going," he grunted.

Fell gave a sheepish smile and took a step back. "Sorry about that."

The man squinted at her, then seemed to recognize something. "Wait... You're that girl staying at the inn, right? Thought I saw you around yesterday."

"Yeah," Fell replied cautiously. "Just out for a run."

He grunted again, clearly not much for conversation. "Well, keep outta trouble. Town's on edge lately."

Fell tilted her head. "Why? Did something happen?"

The man hesitated before lowering his voice. "Slime dungeon's about to overflow. Guild's rallying people to keep it under control. They're expecting a lot of variants, maybe even a King and Queen."

Fell's eyes widened. "That sounds serious."

"It is. If you're smart, you'll keep your distance." He gave her a nod before continuing on his way, leaving Fell to ponder the new information.

"Slimes huh, well sadly I can't help, I'm a bronze rank" She was about to continue her Jog when all of a sudden a girl with brown hair and eyes stood in front of her with a huge smile.

Fell blinked but then smiled. "Hey Maris how are you and miss Rynellia been doing these days in."

Maris gave her a pat"Oh the Card girl seems to be adjusting to the life of an adventurer, you don't seem like a homeless person again ."

Why are people Patting her head, first it was Nyrla and now Maris?!. She did look like a cute Loli but she doesn't want to act like one. "Stop that and yes, I am doing well thanks to you two."

Maris smirked, clearly amused. "Can't help it, kid. You just got that 'pat me' vibe. Besides, it suits you."

Fell puffed her cheeks in mild annoyance but didn't bother protesting further. "So, are you heading somewhere? You look like you're on a mission."

Maris nodded. "Yeah, got myself a little party to clear out that slime dungeon before it overflows. Could use some extra hands, but most of the good ones are already busy or too chicken to face a slime horde."

Fell tilted her head. "A slime horde? Sounds dangerous. Aren't slimes usually weak?"

Maris snorted. "Usually, yeah. But this dungeon's about to burst with variants and elite slimes. Plus, that King and Queen pair is gonna be trouble. I don't expect bronze ranks like you to join, but hey, if you're curious, come watch from a safe distance. Might learn something."

Fell gave a small nod. "Maybe I will. I've never seen a dungeon overflow before."

Maris chuckled. "Just don't get yourself killed, alright? I've got enough babysitting to do with that beast tamer kid tagging along."

Fell raised an eyebrow. "Beast tamer?"

Maris waved her hand dismissively. "Yeah, some newbie with a Black Horned Wolf. He's got guts but zero sense. Should be interesting to see how long he lasts."

Fell blinked. "You meas Asts? I just helped him tame his first beast yesterday and you do realize he is level 1 like me right?. Did you force him?.

Maris grinned mischievously. "Maybe a little. But he agreed in the end, so it's fair game. Besides, throwing him into the deep end will toughen him up."

Fell gave her a deadpan look. "That's reckless, Maris. If he's only level one, he could get seriously hurt or worse. You can't just drag people into danger like that."

Maris rolled her eyes. "Relax, Card Girl. I'm not heartless. I'll keep an eye on him. Besides, he's got that wolf of his, and I'm not planning to throw him straight into the King and Queen fight. He'll be dealing with the smaller fry."

Fell sighed, clearly unconvinced but knowing Maris well enough to realize arguing wouldn't change her mind. "Just... don't get him killed, okay? He's nice."

Maris gave her a thumbs up. "Got it. No killing the newbie. You coming to watch or what? Could be good experience for you."

Fell though about it, she could get some skill blue prints and more cards materials and she may be able to upgrade the slime body skill too also it may give her some field experience in this new world since she already decided to accept her fate. "When can we go?."

Maris grinned, she finally got what she wanted when she arrived here. "Well the dungeon is ten kilometers away from here and we are planning to leave tomorrow and raid the dungeon for like a few days if we are lucky"
