Queen continued to stare at him with mixed feelings.
"I don't understand. How did that work? How were you able to completely calm yourself and the energy, how did you do it, what were you thinking about?" She was confused but also curious.
"Nothing really, I just trusted that you were here and nothing would happen, as long as you were here you would protect me." He smiled softly then shook his head, "That's it sorry about that just forget I said that. It was nothing really."
Her gaze couldn't help but soften more at his words. But she quickly hid it and changed the topic back, "With it still in your bloodstream it will temper your body. The energy will do that naturally even without any instigation, after all if your body is going to be its new home it would have to make it more comfortable. How do you feel?"
"I'm full of strength! I do feel a little discomfort though, it's like I'm going to explode,"
"That's thanks to the energy's presence; you'll keep feeling like that until your body gets accustomed to it. You could just send it all into the seal or just outright disperse it?"
"Of course not, that would be a complete waste. With the energy being allowed to roam freely all through my bloodstream my body will keep strengthening. This way, It's like I'm cultivating at all times." Drake grinned as he put on the clothes she had handed him. Once he was done he looked around, by now the transparent walls of the space prison had disappeared.
"I caused all of this? Magic power shouldn't be this strong in the early stages right?" Drake exclaimed when he saw the crater and destruction caused by his magic energy.
"Of course it's not." She rolled her eyes and confirmed, "The quality of your power is a bit stronger than normal and your unknown attribute affinity also played a part as to why the destructive power was so strong."
"Oh! But wait, if it could do this kind of damage, then it should have vaporized me right? I mean I might be a little narcissistic, but even I know my fleshy body isn't tougher than rock."
"Your own magic power will never actively attack your body or try to destroy its host, so you would only experience the pressure but not the full brunt of its power." She explained.
"That's a relief, good to know." Drake nodded relived, before turning sober "Now about the seal, can you get rid of it?"
"Yes, but I wouldn't advise it."
"Why not?"
"I've thought about it, and I don't think I should remove it. Not now at least. The reason is because I'm trying to be cautious."
"Of the Barrier Mage?"
"Not just him but also the possibility of his background having mages as powerful as himself. I don't want to risk them finding us. Think about it, the seal was placed on you while you were an infant. If you really are related to a clan as powerful as those so high up the ladder, then what would be the reason for you to be abandoned. The first legit reason should be that he came from a family that couldn't take care of him. However, someone from clans like that wouldn't possibly go through a situation like that, the only reason this should happen is if they did it on purpose. Why would they do something like that on purpose? Maybe it was done to protect you from something. Maybe that's also why they purposely got rid of any records or leads showing that you ever existed."
Drake frowned when he thought about things like that, "You mean I was probably being hunted, and my parents had abandoned me because they were hiding me. But if that was the case then why seal my magic power?"
"It can be either of two things! One, they sealed your magic power so nobody could trace your affinity back to your family. It's no secret that mages tend to inherit powers especially if there were extremely powerful people in the previous generation of the family, that's how we have special bloodline ability's. Remember, mages are connected to their power by their mental imprint, if this indeed turns out to be the case, then me destroying the seal will alert the mental imprint and may lead to its master finding you since he will probably be able to detect your exact location by sensing where the seal with his mental imprint was destroyed, If they turned out to be friends of your family then that could be good." She stopped to let this sink in then continued.
"Then there's the second part and this is the bad part, that's why I saved it for last. What if it was an enemy that sealed you? Wouldn't my destroying the seal alert them to your current location? Think about it, usually nobody would seal away another person's magical power for extended periods unless it were a prisoner. This is because sealing away a person's magic power is different from just restraining the limb, no it's more like cutting it off completely then later reattaching it when it is unsealed. Like it or not when a limb is reattached you will lose that perfect synergy, this would reduce the flexibility of using that limb especially if the nerves are damaged. Though it's a bit different with magic power its coordination flexibility can be strengthened over time with training. But how long would that take?"
"Anyway sealing your energy away would have been the best thing they could do to prevent your family from finding traces of it and tracking you down after kidnapping you. If your family can't detect your magic power, they can't track down your location. If that turns out to be the case and it's an enemy that finds you when I break the seal, then you won't be able to protect yourself. And if there are too many powerful enemies then even we might not be able to protect you."
"But if the enemy can really sense the mental imprint of the seal then why haven't they found me after all this time?" Drake inquired after some thought.
"My guess is that maybe it's because there's too much distance between the mage and the seal. The seal was hidden so meticulously that unless you were specifically looking for it you wouldn't find anything. So probably even its master can't detect exactly where it is but that could change the instant it is attacked by an outside force.
"Then what about now that there's a crack in the barrier, shouldn't they have already found me?"
"Maybe the seal doesn't consider your magic power an outside force, after all it has been grinding away at the seal all this time since the seal was first placed. In fact, even if I don't remove the seal now you will probably be able to do it yourself. After all this time, even as we speak your magic power is constantly wearing away at the barrier. And the stronger you get the faster you'll be able to remove it, and you'll be able to do all this while being undetected since the seal's master won't sense any external force acting against his barrier. Also, by then you would already be much stronger so even if they did sense anything when the seal is completely removed, at least you'd be able to protect yourself better and we would be much better prepared."
"Then again, you can also look at the bright side of it. the seal can serve the function of a training wheel for you. Since it can help you limit the quantity of energy in your body so when you learn how to control the energy you can start small and gradually increase the amount with time as you master it." She added.
…
Drake returned to the Black clan, by the time he did it was already nearly noon. He had spent the whole night struggling with the seal and learning how to control his magic power.
After his conversation with Queen, he had decided to leave the seal alone for now. He didn't know what happened with his family when he was an infant, nor did he know whether it was friend or foe that had sealed up his magic power but one thing was certain; he was not an idiot that would place all his hope on the slight belief that his parents would be able to find him when he removed the seal, and that they could have a nice family reunion.
That was just not realistic and would be putting all his eggs in one basket. If Drake had learned anything from life it was that life wasn't fair and reality was the most disappointing thing in existence. Life wasn't all sunshine and rainbows like in fairy tales, happily ever afters never happened in the real world. If by the off chance he destroyed the seal and enemies found him, one slip and his decision could not only get him killed, but also result in bad consequences for the Black clan.
He could only follow his old motto. 'Expect nothing, hope for the best and be prepared for the worst.'
Besides, he already knew how poisonous the politics in great clans could get. There was no such thing as family love in great clans, instead they valued strength more. The stronger you were the more value you held, and if you were weak they would not hesitate to sell you out for whatever they thought was the greater good or bigger picture, his current condition in the Black clan was a good example. If he was to return to his family, he wants to be valued, to be respected.
As for the crave for family? That could wait, he has already lived all his life in a clan that did not value his existence, he wasn't doing that shit again. Patience was key in making decisions like this, and that he had.
