Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Fall

They had all held each other's hands while inside this bubble. The only lady present had barely managed to conjure the thing in time with quick spellcasting.

Yet, such magic was draining it only stopped the original shockwave damage of the attack at the cost of most of her mana. If it was a direct hit the bubble would have popped, and they all would have ended up like everyone else on that plane.

{{"James, my spell doesn't have enough juice to save us from the fall."}} Emma said as she kept chugging down a mysterious yellow potion held within a crystal glass container.

Strangely enough the potion wasn't being held with her real hand, but a blue transparent one as her other hands were holding the other two people inside the bubble firmly.

{{"Emma, I always thought we would die after seeing our great great great grandkids."}} I sighed as our fate from this encounter had taken a sudden turn for the worst.

*Chug*

*Chug*

Emma had, kept on drinking potion after potion to the point her flat stomach had started to bulge a bit. Yet the potions she had been drinking didn't seem to be helping her fast enough.

*Flash*

*Flicker*

*Flash*

The transparent pink barrier holding them all had just started to flicker rapidly just before stabling once again.

I took in a deep breath as my nerves were still as tense as ever.

*Exhale*

I sighed deeply as I looked at Emma to see she had turned pale from whatever she had just done to maintain the barrier around us.

'What are we going to do... Our son has been knocked out since the crash happened, and it's looking like he'll wake up soon...' I thought as I frowned at what we were going to do about that later.

'Ya, later, if we even make it that far in the middle of the ocean...' I thought while I sighed at our terrible luck.

They were all falling at this point with no land in sight above the North Pacific Ocean. They were in the middle of their flight to Japan from California. At this point, everyone would long be dead before help ever arrived.

I looked to my side to notice my son had just woken up.

'How the hell are we going to explain where we are and what we are doing...' I thought as I steeled myself for what was to come next.

"Wow, Mommy made a pink bubble. We are slowly falling. Can you two give us wings later? I wanna fly together later on." My son had said suddenly.

'Lucid dreams can be pretty realistic sometimes. This dream was way more realistic than the others I've had before. I wonder how Mom and Dad will react when I wake them up and tell them.' He thought.

{{"Honey, I know your magical bubble slowed our fall by over 99% and took all the initial damage, but at this speed, in a few minutes, we will all be dead."}} I said as I noticed the barrier was slowly increasing speed after the whole flicking incident happened.

{{"James, we don't have a few minutes. My spell is constantly draining my mana pool. Soon enough, the slow fall feature will shatter. Those potions are refilling my mana pool fast enough."}} My wife said with a hollow voice.

'Huh, so this is the end after all? What a way to go out. I didn't think a simple business trip would be the end for me and my family. Our son still thinks this is his usual lucid dream, the same ones he tells us about often.

Well, once we hit the water, we will all die instantly from the fall anyway. So, in theory, it will be painless, and we can all meet again in the afterlife. Luckily, he can't hear our conversation right now, as my wife is using her messaging spell.' I thought as my tense nerves had finally managed to calm down now that I knew the answer.

{{"Emma, we won't tell him it's not a dream. He should die in ignorance peacefully with a sense of wonder rather than die in despair and terror with an unavoidable fate."}} I said with a firm tone, masking my real feelings on the matter.

{{"But, James, shouldn't we tell him the truth just this once? We have been hiding things from him since he w---"}} My wife had tried to respond, but I knew better.

{{"No, Emma, we both know the instant we hit the sea, we will all die instantly! Let our boy enjoy his peace a little longer."}} I replied as I put my foot down for the best possible option we had left.

My firm expression had obviously gotten a few looks from our son, but that couldn't be helped... My firm and serious expression turned goofy as I had a big smile across my face.

"Lucas ,my boy, you should know dream magic is limited, so just enjoy the scenery as we fall." I said as I had to gulp a few times to even get those minuscule words out.

Emma cried a bit before also smiling like James, but her son was looking at his father so the tears went unnoticed. A transparent blue hand suddenly appeared as they wiped the tears away in a quick fashion.

"Lucas, don't worry we will all have wings together the next time you wake up in a different dream in 90 seconds." My wife explained while trying to comfort her son in a close hug with me.

"Mom, Dad, are you both serious? Wait a sec, did you guys just promise to plan the next dream world?" My son asked with a shocked expression as this was the first time his dream planned events for future dreams.

'They are acting strange, but most of my dreams are strange, so it doesn't matter. I wonder what kind of adventure we will have with these wings that are planned for next time?' He thought.

Not long after... The pink bubble around them lost its slowing properties.

*~Whizz~*

*~Whizz~*

The Bubble had started falling like crazy as it was, a speeding rocket towards the sea. The other passengers were long dead by this point in time, and all the pieces of the plane had long fallen into the sea.

A boy could be seen within a pink bubble surrounded by hugs between two people as he kept saying Weeee or Yaaa while heading downward.

"Mom, this is so fun!" My son said as we were merely 30 seconds away from hitting the sea.

"Don't worry... Your mother and I will play this game.... whenever you want my boy in your next dream.." I said while my facade started to crack as the ground grew closer and closer by the second.

"I love you, Honey Bear!" My wife said with a smile.

I kissed her as I hugged her one last time. I whispered into her ear as my son kept doing backflips in the falling barrier saying YAAA.

"I love you too, honey. If we meet in the afterlife, will you still be my wife till the end of time, my love!?" I said as I held her tightly in my embrace.

"Yes, Yes, YES! To forever and more, Honey Bear!" My wife said.

"To forever and more, Honey!" I said as I pulled her in close for one last kiss.

'I wonder if angels are as giant as the myths... What am I saying, I'm going to hell for the life I lived... I just hope Emma won't cry too much when she sees I'm not at the pearly gates by her side... To the end, and to my eternal damnation the next time I open my eyes..' I thought one last time. I had then begun to close my eyes as I had seen the ground was but a few seconds away earlier.

Yet before they hit the ground, a miracle happened.
