Chapter 8 - The War at the Gates

Immediately Thegarroth arrived in the kingdom, he went straight into the palace to meet his wife and tell her how the meeting went.

He saw her in the Palace Hall giving directives to subordinates and smiled. Then he walked over to where she sat, prepared to tell her what ensued at the meeting when two guards suddenly ran towards them.

Kneeling on one knee with their fists clasped in front of them, one of them said with great urgency in his tone, "Our Lord, we have suddenly come under attack by an unknown warring tribe."

"They somehow broke through the Arraghonth Gate at the west and have started to march eastward, ravaging and destroying everything that they come into contact with."

"What? How is that possible?!" Thegarroth who had great confidence in the Western Arraghonth Gate—a powerful, defensive gate-type treasure that he discovered in a certain highly dangerous realm that will evoke fear in even higher divine beings, said with great shock in his tone.

With eyes now burning with palpable fury over the lives that may have been lost, he said quickly, "Guards, immediately send out my order that our soldiers should gather and instantly head out. We have to protect the lives of everyone at all costs."

"Yes, Your Lordship." The two guards said in unison and immediately stood to their feet to relay his order to one of their commanders who will quickly organize a large number of soldiers and move out. They too were bitter and rageful over the lives and property that they felt would have been lost in the unannounced battle that suddenly came knocking at their door.

Vhelgarr who was in the room with Nailah, discussing whatever he could just to bond with his sister more, suddenly had his mom's voice ring in his head.

"Son, come to the palace now." She said.

"Huh." Vhelgarr uttered, totally astonished and bewildered at the same time.

Then he immediately stood to his feet to go to the palace to see what was happening, because from his mother's tone, she sounded serious and urgent about it.

Nailah quickly followed behind Vhelgarr who beaconed at her to come with him.

Once they arrived at the palace, Vhelgarr saw his father pacing around, a really angry expression written all over his face.

"Dad, what's wrong?" He asked, hoping that whatever may have happened could still be salvaged.

"It's some tyrannical tribe son. They surprisingly broke through our West Arraghonth Gate and have been devastating everything that they came across in their path. I don't know how many lives would have been lost like this. Arggh!" Thegarroth grunted in anger while Vhelgarr's eyes shone, a light of strangeness and perplexity flashing through them.

None of this happened in his past life, but he felt he knew the person that had a hand in it, or better still, ordered it.

'Definitely the work of the Chadnezzar.' Vhelgarr's gaze sharpened, a certain fury beginning to burn at the depth of his being. These were the people that he swore to protect that were now being killed.

As this fury blazed within him and surged to a great level, in a seemingly faraway realm—one totally inaccessible by anyone, a being that was covered by countless glowing motes of condensed destructive power, suddenly had its deep abyssal eyes open slightly, before shutting back tightly.

But then, because of the slight opening of its eyes, a strongly distorting ripple of vast ancient power was immediately sent out. This power—which could reduce rows of large clusters of enormous stars to shreds, ravaged through time and space, seriously alerting thousands to millions of formidable powerhouses that had the divine perceptive ability to detect primal disruptions in the spacetime continuum.

Vhelgarr, who didn't know or had the slightest idea what was happening, said to his father with concealed rage in his tone, "Dad, I would like to head out and assist our men in destroying this barbaric tribe. Do grant me my request."

"Go, son. Go do what you can to immediately restore order in that region." His father said, surprisingly granting his request.

"Thanks, dad." Vhelgarr said gladly and immediately turned around to head to his room where he was going to change into a shining Kynthrall armor that he had possessed since the age of eighteen. Also, he would arm himself with a sword and a spear that he hadn't used to fight since their kingdom attained an era of peace and prosperity.

He was immediately followed behind by Nailah who had the intention of following him straight into the heart of the battle, making her seem kind of dangerously fearless at the young age of fifteen.

Once Vhelgarr got to his room, Nailah said to him, "Brother, can I follow you into this battle? I would really love to sharpen my fighting skills."

Vhelgarr didn't even think twice about it when he said, "Yes."

Then he looked at her and said, "You don't have battle armor. We have to do something about that."

Searching through his old collections, he found a set of light armor pieces that he had when he was younger and kept around.

He immediately took it out and said to Nailah, "Wear these. It should fit you. Also, it is durable and quite impervious to an extent."

"Okay." Nailah said.

Once she was done wearing it, with the armor shining on her body once it was irradiated by the rays of the sun, Vhelgarr gave a bright smile of admiration. She really looked like a battle-hardened warrior, even when this would be her first true battle.

Then together, they marched out of their room to where his Nexabeast, a Scaledhorn Battle Horse stood, bathing in the floodlight of the sun, radiating might and glory.

Before they could climb atop the muscular, strong-looking winged beast, which was a large, double-horned horse that had its entire body and antler-like horns covered all over in glittering, dark-brown scales, Vhelgarr said to Nailah with a serious expression on his face, "Nailah, when we appear at the battlefield, never leave my side, no matter what happens. Okay?"

"Yes, brother. I will never leave your side."

"Even if you didn't tell me that in the first place, I never planned to do so. That would be grossly unwise of me to do." Nailah said, seemingly knowing her own strength level and understanding how weak and vulnerable she could be in a battle where she would be overwhelmingly targeted by their enemies.

"Good." Vhelgarr said. As usual, he was seriously impressed by his sister's intellect.

"Now, let's go restore peace in that area and save as many lives as we can." Vhelgarr said with a resolute tone in his voice, while Nailah, now wearing a helmet, sharpened her gaze.

Arryhiarr, who was watching this with her really powerful vision from within the Palace, produced a bright, warm smile on her face. She was really proud of her babies.

Seeing them kit up, looking like actual warriors that had been fighting for the weak and oppressed for an inestimable number of centuries, caused her heart to flutter with happiness. Even with the abrupt devastating war at their doorstep, it didn't cause her to be anguished or gloomy.

Then she stood to her feet, prepared to fly to the region that had been thrown into chaos. She was going to watch over her kids, as well as the enemy, barring them from advancing to the center of their kingdom.
