Chapter 18 - Chp 18

Like Professor McGonagall, Professor Snape has no trouble keeping order in the classroom.

He spent half a class period instructing two classes of students, working in pairs, to learn how to prepare the simplest magic potion to treat scabies.

It is said to be the simplest magic potion, but both the ingredients and the steps seem to be quite complicated.

Jon Hart and Astoria Greengrass as a team.

Following Snape's orders, Jon took out various materials from the Potions cabinet, including dried nettles, serpent fangs, and porcupine quills; Astoria lit the fire and placed her cauldron on it.

During their configuration process, Snape dragged a long black cloak and walked around the classroom like a big bat, observing their configuration steps... During this period, most of the Hufflepuff students were severely criticized by him; even many Slytherin students could not avoid it.

After returning to his seat, Jon moved very skillfully. In fact, with his experience from his previous life, he was already familiar with these simple actions of grinding, dissolving and boiling.

"Why are you grinding porcupine quills?" Astoria asked in confusion.

"The book says to chop the quills into small pieces and add them together with the snake's fangs!"

"Any fool should know that powder will dissolve more easily than broken pieces!" Jon shrugged and continued grinding.

...

...

Astoria frowned and continued to hit the small piece of snake fang with the hammer.

"Please help me roast the nettles in the pot for a while, so that the water can be dried out... Thank you!" Jon ordered while carefully mixing the porcupine quill powder and crushed snake fangs together.

Astoria opened her mouth, but no sound came out, and she did as Jon asked.

During this time, Snape passed by their location several times, stopped to observe their actions for several minutes, and even saw the small dish of porcupine quills crushed into powder... However, he did not interfere at all, just glanced at Jon a few times.

Once the nettles, porcupine quills and snake fangs are added to the pot.

"It needs to be boiled for five minutes." Astoria glanced at the "Magical Pharmacy and Potions" in her hand and reminded.

Jon looked at his watch as he gradually increased the flame.

When the mixture began to turn yellow, he quickly turned down the flame to prevent it from boiling too much.

"I hope you don't mess it up..." Astoria said nervously on the other side.

Jon didn't have anything to worry about... The Hogwarts Potions textbook was actually not authoritative or correct. Even simple things like squeezing or cutting the beans to make them juicer easier could be wrong.

But it is normal. After all, there are less than 10,000 wizards in the British wizarding world. It is equivalent to teachers in a small town writing a set of textbooks by themselves. It is normal for a large number of loopholes to appear in them.

In this case, instead of sticking to the old ways, it would be better to make some small corrections to the steps based on the experience of previous biochemical experiments.

After all, even in the magical world, there are still basic laws to abide by, right?

Half an hour later, Snape was walking slowly between the tables, examining each cauldron in turn, their work.

When he saw the ugly blue mixture that Zacharias Smith and Eloise Midgen had prepared, a sarcastic smile appeared on his face: "Do you think you can drink this pot of potion, Mr. Smith and Miss Midgen?"

"As for this pot, instead of curing scabies, it makes them worse!" he said again of the work of Selwyn and Yaxley.

Snape picked out problems with almost every student's work and then ridiculed them until he walked to the first row:

Snape frowned when he saw the pot of clear yellowish liquid in front of Jon and Astoria.

The expression on his face was strange, as if he wanted to find fault but couldn't.

"Well done..." he said dryly, "Miss Greengrass...five points to Slytherin!"

 …

"This is too much!" As soon as Snape left the Potions classroom, Zacharias rushed over angrily: "I've heard that Snape favors Slytherin...but this is too much, right? Why only give extra points to Greengrass and not to you, Jon!"

As he spoke, he glared at Astoria, thinking it was her fault.

Astoria pretended not to notice and quietly arranged the crucible; and poured the potion she and Jon had just prepared into the crystal bottle.

Zacharias berated Snape for about five minutes before he left the Potions classroom in a haughty manner; the other Hufflepuff and Slytherin students had already left... leaving only Jon and Astoria.

 Astoria finally packed her things.

"I'll go talk to Professor Snape!" She whispered, "Tell him that you made most of the potions today... It has nothing to do with me... Ask him to return the points to Hufflepuff."

"That's not necessary!" Jon smiled. He didn't think that with Snape's personality, he would deduct points from Slytherin and add points to other houses.

"It's not just my credit. Today's potion is the result of our joint efforts. I think if there is a next time, Professor Snape will give Hufflepuff extra points!" Jon said this, and he himself didn't quite believe it.

Astoria seemed to believe it, and she nodded seriously.

The two packed up their things and walked out of the Potions classroom.

Both the Hufflepuff common room and the Slytherin common room are not far from here.

 Astoria paused, seeming to hesitate.

 "What's wrong?" Jon asked.

"Professor Snape put Daphne in detention for a week." Astoria said timidly, "He also ordered Daphne to apologize to you... Can I apologize to you on her behalf?"

A week of detention, this punishment was more severe than he had imagined. It was almost the same level of punishment as Potter and Weasley who drove to school in a speeding car.

But it's normal to think about it. For Severus Snape, the word he hates the most is undoubtedly "Mudblood"! After all, that is the pain of his life.

Jon had no intention of letting the situation continue to stalemate.

"Of course!" He winked. "You can tell Daphne that it's okay!"

"Thank you..." Astoria smiled brightly and said quickly.

"Let's go!" Jon waved his hand: "I'm going back to the Hufflepuff common room."

 "goodbye!"
