"Mom, where are you going?" I looked at my mother waiting for my birthday. She turned to look at me and said, "I'll be back in two hours. So please keep yourself busy." With that she just walked out of the house. I was home alone. I was only five years old, so I was shocked and scared.
A few minutes later I walked out to go to the park. When I got there were a few kids that were older than me. I saw them bullying a kid my age. I screamed and said angrily, "Hey, you bully, leave him alone." I stormed towards them and punched the guy who was holding the guy my age. The boy I punched fell on his butt.
I helped the guy my age stands up and said, "Are you right?" He stood up and said, "Yes I'm alright. Thanks for the help." We walked to the ice-cream truck, and he bought me ice-cream. I looked at him and said, "You don't need to buy me it. I didn't help you, so you don't have to get me this." He smiled at me and said, "You deserve it." Then he handed me an ice cream. I took it not wanting to be rude. "Thanks." I said and hugged him and cried.
He was confused at my tears and asked, "Why are you crying? Did I do something wrong?" I shook my head and said, "No, it's just my mother forgot today was my birthday and this is the first present I received in so long." The boy smiled and said, "Then happy birthday, umm.... what's your name?" I laughed and said, "Its Emily. And yours?" He looked and me and said, "I'm Jacob, but please call me Jake. And happy birthday Emily." He smiled and my five-year-old heart fluttered.
Then he walked with me to my apartment, and it turned out he lived a floor above me. When we reached my apartment, I gave him a hug and said, "Thanks for today you made it really special for me." As I let go, he said, "I had fun today and also thanks for saving me from those bullies earlier." I nodded and went into my apartment. As I closed the door my mother then said, "Where have you been, little missy?" I glared at her and said, "I went to the park and made some friends, so I won't be a bother to you anymore mother. I'll be going to bed." She didn't even say happy birthday and from that day Jake and I grew close, and me and my mother drifted apart. And at some point, my mother Ignored me completely and moved away leaving me behind. But Jakes parents adopted me and treated me like their own child. And all this happened when I was five.
