CHAPTER 5
Fear overpowered her as she looked at the cause of the attack, it's appearance was something seen in nightmares, Having the appearance of a wolf but was almost 11 feet tall, it had four bright red eyes, one atop each of the regular eyes and at the joint of the forelegs where skinny human like hands that dragged on the floor, it's body was muscular, the details of the muscle outlined on every part of it's body, it's fur was blood red with it's sliver spine exposed and running to the tail which was black and naked like a rats as it moved with intense speed pushing away gust of wind and making loud cutting noises. It took a step closer to her as it's growled loudly saliva dropping from it's mouth, it brought it's head closer to her and all it's eyes focused on her, it stood still for a moment just looking at her and snarling then it raised one of the skinny hands slowly, she knew what was about to happen but she couldn't even move, her legs felt like they had become one with the ground below her, all she could do was let tears fall out of her eyes and watch as her death became certain, she closed her eyes bracing herself for impact as she accepted her fate while she quietly recited prayers, The hand swung down speedily with a loud slashing sound, cutting through the air and following with it was a heavy gust of wind, She waited for the hit to come but it didn't, all she felt was a gently breeze against her face and her body against a wall, she slowly opened her eyes and her vision was obstructed by what looked to be a slightly injured chest, she looked up and saw the face of her son with the more anger in his eyes than she had ever seen before, he held her like she weighed nothing and gently put her down, He stood to his feet and she stared at his back, his shirt had been turned to rags by the earlier attack but there was almost no sign of injury on his body, something was different, he looked almost a feet taller and had by far more muscles than she remembered but there was something else, something she couldn't see, he had a different aura, the energy around him had changed, more powerful, it felt intimidating and reassuring, she looked at the distance between them and the devil and was confused, how did he take her so far away in almost a second, she looked at him again with disbelief.
"Child" she called but he didn't answer, He looked at his fist and felt power flowing through him, power he hadn't felt before the attack, He clenched his fist and looked at the devil
"I'll be right back Mother" he confidently assured as he began to walk back to the devil every step sent vibrations through the earth, the small pebbles on the floor shook as he walked past them, his body was on alert, aware of everything that surrounded him, after six steps, he stopped and looked at his legs, honestly how he had gotten his mother so far away was a mystery to even him but he wondered if he could move that fast again, he pressed his legs to the floor and took a running stance, his heart began beating incredibly fast and the moment his feet left the ground he accelerated appearing directly in the front of the devil, he stumbled forward almost losing balance as he stopped but planted his legs in the floor and regained it
"How did he?" She asked herself in confusion, the devil stared at him and once again lifted up it's hand but this time it wasted no second to strike, the hand moved even faster now but to him it moved in slow motion, he wondered how he would dodge this and again his looked at his feet, he squatted down and with a burst he leaped into the air completely avoiding the impact, it darted it's eyes around looking, searching for him, but it didn't find him
"DEVIL!!!" He shouted drawing it's attention to him, it looked up and saw him falling in a striking position, his muscles ached as he put every bit of strength and power into one fist, he drew the fist back to create some momentum then with every bit of strength in him he threw a punch, his fist connecting with the snout of the devil sending it straight to the ground and causing an explosion of dust that pushed away so much wind it almost blew his mother away, The dust clouds that had been formed where thick making her unable to see what had happened, but when the dust settled she saw him standing on the devil's bleeding and crushed head as it laid lifeless on the ground. He couldn't believe it, every move he made had been a gigantic gamble but too kill it in one punch was something he had not anticipated, he jumped off the head his hand covered in the blood of the devil and a little bit of his and began walking towards her, she stood up and ran towards him
"Child" she said as she embraced him tightly, his body was hard and immoveable and his palm was rough as he placed it on her back and held her, as she hugged him she felt his body become numb and limp as he fell backwards and landed on the floor, he had passed out
"Child, Child, Child!!" She shouted shaking him and trying to wake him up all to no avail.
She stared at him as he sat on the bed, he had just woken up from his tired slumber and he now ate like nothing had happened, like he hadn't grown an entire foot tall in seconds or had the body structure of a gladiator or that he had just killed a devil with his bare hand's or passed out
"Are we not going to speak about this" she said breaking the silence
"What is there to speak about?, we already know why what happened happened" he replied solemnly as he stood up and walked past her, she took in a deep breath and wanted to say something but there was nothing to say, she knew the cause of what happened, and she just wanted an explanation she didn't need, she sighed and walked to his side
"This power..."
"This power saved your life" he cut her off
"You fainted immediately after using it, doesn't that seem like a bad sign to you", he wanted to argue but there was no argument to be made, he remained quiet
"It's laughable how things can change" she continued
"Really?" He asked
"Yes, yesterday you could barely walk now you're killing devil's, it's eye opening" she answered with a slight smile, they stood quietly just looking at the sun set
"When the attack hit me, I felt like I died, I saw myself in this dark place with light shining from a corner, I ran to it and I woke up but I didn't feel like me anymore, I didn't just feel like I was healed I felt empowered I became better and I don't know how but when I saw you in danger I just moved on Instinct" he said then a sigh escaped his lips before he continued "I fainted because I put to much strain on myself, on my body that isn't used to this power and I know it's gonna take time for me to adapt to this power but I will" he said making sure to keep his tone soft and gentle, he looked at her and smiled
"It's gonna be ok" he assured rubbing her shoulders
"I'm gonna be ok"
"I know" she said as she hugged him and he hugged her back, they stayed in each other's warm embrace in a comfortable silence until he spoke
"Mother" he uttered quietly
"Yes"
"I think I need to leave" he said sadly
"Why is that" she asked calmly her finger nails digging into her palm
"Nothing had ever happened when I was confided to that bed but the day I become.... this...a devil shows up" he explained
"A devil which you killed" she countered
"You almost died mother, I don't wanna risk your safety"
"You can protect me" she argued
"Not every time Mother, not every time" he continued, she looked at him, her eyes sparkling with tears, she wanted to argue but she knew he was right, he bent down and hugged her
"I love you mother" He said
"I love you child" she whispered into his ears.
