"Mr. Faulkner, what's the meaning of this?"
The hospital director refused to give up and stepped forward, seeking an explanation.
Faulkner simply waved his hand and glanced at Jake before speaking.
"Stop calling me 'boss.' From now on, your boss is Mr. Jacobs."
Thud!
The hospital director dropped to his knees, his face filled with panic.
"Mr. Jacobs, please, be merciful! Don't hold this against me!" he pleaded, bowing repeatedly.
Samantha and her mother were utterly stunned by the sudden reversal of fortune. Their mouths hung open in shock, wide enough to fit an egg.
Jake turned to Faulkner and said, "I need you to look into these two—see if they've been involved in any corruption or bribery." He gestured toward the hospital director and Dr. Lee, who was still groaning on the ground.
Faulkner thumped his chest in reassurance. "Leave it to me, Mr. Jacobs."
Hearing Jake's words, the hospital director felt his soul leave his body. His mind went blank, and he collapsed onto the floor. He knew exactly how much he had embezzled—it was more than enough to land him in prison for life.
Jake then approached Samantha's mother, who was still lying on the hospital bed. Bowing slightly, he introduced himself, "Ms. Morgan, I'm Jake Jacobs, Samantha's boyfriend."
He glanced at Samantha as he spoke.
Samantha's cheeks instantly flushed red.
Seeing her daughter's reaction, Ms. Morgan immediately understood—her daughter had fallen for this man.
She sighed internally. I just hope she'll be happy. Although Jake seemed a bit reckless, everything he had done was to protect them. That meant he truly cared for Samantha.
With that thought, she smiled at Jake, silently accepting him.
Jake immediately knew he had won her over.
Faulkner was efficient—within moments, his men arrived and dragged away the hospital director and Dr. Lee.
Jake turned and asked, "Who's the deputy director here?"
A middle-aged, bald man hurried in, wiping sweat from his forehead. He bowed deeply.
"Mr. Jacobs!"
"From now on, Samantha is the director of Fukang Hospital," Jake announced, pointing at her. His tone was serious. "You will assist her in managing the hospital. Understood?"
The deputy director quickly nodded, his voice trembling. "Yes, sir! I'll fully support Director Morgan in her work!"
He didn't dare refuse—one wrong move, and he could lose his job too.
"Good. Now get back to work."
With that, Jake dismissed him, leaving only the three of them in the hospital room.
Samantha finally snapped out of her daze.
"Jake… I can't be a hospital director!" she protested, shaking her head.
Jake chuckled. "Don't worry, the deputy director will help you. I believe in you."
Owning the hospital was practically a freebie. The moment he signed the contract with Faulkner, the system's voice had chimed in:
"Congratulations, host! You have spent three hundred million dollars, received a three hundred million cashback, and earned three Spoiled Brat Points."
A hospital for free—plus three points to spend.
Ms. Morgan watched Jake with a complicated expression. He was unbelievably rich—just because he was displeased with the hospital, he had bought it. She glanced at her daughter, worry creeping into her heart.
Samantha, however, was thrilled. She had always wanted her own career, and now she had the chance. Even better, she could help Jake manage his assets.
Her eyes sparkled as she gazed at him.
"Ms. Morgan, please lie down. Let me take a look at your leg," Jake said.
He gently uncovered her leg.
"This is nothing serious—just arthritis. I'll treat it now, and you'll be walking without pain in no time."
Jake diagnosed the issue at a glance.
But to Samantha and her mother, this was unbelievable. Ms. Morgan had suffered from this condition for years.
"Can you really cure it?" Samantha asked, her voice trembling. She wasn't sure whether she feared being lied to or seeing her mother suffer more.
Jake nodded and retrieved a box of silver needles from his system inventory—a bonus gift from the Medicine King's Legacy.
He swiftly inserted the needles into the key acupuncture points on her leg.
Ms. Morgan felt a strange sensation, like tiny ants crawling over her skin. Then, a wave of warmth spread through her leg, easing her pain.
She almost let out a moan of relief but quickly composed herself, glancing around to make sure no one noticed.
A few moments later, Jake removed the needles.
"Alright, Ms. Morgan. Try standing up and see if it still hurts," he said while packing up his needles.
Samantha hurried to support her mother.
"Mom, try it!"
Ms. Morgan hesitated, then slowly stood up. It had been so long since she had moved without pain that she felt unsteady. Samantha held her arm as she took a few cautious steps.
Then, Ms. Morgan let go and started walking on her own. Step by step, her movements became smoother.
Tears welled up in Samantha's eyes. She covered her mouth, trying to suppress a sob.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, she suddenly stepped forward, stood on her tiptoes, and pressed a quick kiss to Jake's cheek.
"Thank you, Jake."
Her voice was soft, and her face turned bright red. It was the first time she had taken the initiative to kiss a man. Her heart raced wildly.
Jake touched his cheek, glancing at the shy Samantha.
Did she just steal a kiss from me?
He smirked. Not bad. I like it.
Ms. Morgan, after testing her leg a bit more, realized she could walk as if she had never been sick. Relief and gratitude filled her heart.
"Jake—can I call you that? Thank you. Truly."
Jake grinned. "Of course, Ms. Morgan. No need to be so formal. You're Samantha's mother, which makes you like family to me."
Samantha was pleased by his words—until she heard the last part.
"Hey! What do you mean, 'like family'?" she pouted, tugging on his arm in playful protest.
Ms. Morgan wasn't upset at all. In fact, she was glad. Watching the two of them bicker so naturally, she felt genuinely happy.
"Since you're feeling better, let's get out of here," Jake suggested. "This hospital smells awful."
Ms. Morgan nodded and began packing her things.
As they left the hospital, a new issue arose—Jake's sports car only had two seats.
In the end, they had no choice but to call a taxi for Ms. Morgan and Samantha while Jake followed behind in his car, carrying their luggage.
Soon, they arrived at a rundown neighborhood on the outskirts of the city.
Jake parked outside—there was no way his car could fit in the narrow alleyways.
Samantha and her mother lived in a cramped, twenty-square-meter apartment.
Jake took one look inside and frowned.
