Chapter 6 - Playing with Fire

Kevin noticed the strong smell of alcohol as he passed by Lilian, frowning.

Although he has to drink for social events sometimes, he generally avoids it as much as possible.

By the time he arrived home at the apartment, it was close to midnight.

He had been busy with the company stuff all day and didn’t have time to think of Jessie.

It wasn’t until he saw a client with his wife that Kevin realized he was married now.

It was his first night after they got married, so he decided to go home after dealing with his client.

He was hoping Jessie would be smart, sensible, and wouldn’t cause any trouble for him.

He located the house he bought, took the keys his assistant prepared for him, and opened the door.

It was pitch black inside, so he couldn't see the layout clearly.

As he instinctively reached for the living room light, he was surprised by the sound of even breathing.

Thinking there was an intruder, he quickly found the light switch and turned it on.

The living room lit up, and the sudden brightness made him squint slightly. He looked closely and saw someone lying on the couch.

As he walked over, he confirmed that it was Jessie, his newly married wife.

She was wearing a black camisole, her figure full and curvy. Her long legs were casually draped over the couch, revealing a large area of her skin that exuded an alluring charm.

As a normal healthy man, Kevin’s lower parts naturally responded to this sight.

He assumed Jessie was deliberately trying to seduce him.

As he got closer, his expression darkened when he caught the strong scent of alcohol on her.

Did this woman not realize that the living room was a public space? How could she sleep here?

And why did she drink in the middle of the night?

His grandfather really found him a fine wife.

Grandpa Harper always talked about how kind-hearted Jessie was, insisting that Kevin treat her well.

However, Kevin's ideal image of Jessie had completely shattered now.

"Wake up..." He tried to wake her up, but it was futile.

She was deep asleep, entirely unresponsive.

After calling out several times to no avail, he gave up altogether.

His face darkened even further as he effortlessly picked her up in his arms, her soft chest pressing against his while her warm breath blew on his neck.

Every breath felt like silent provocation.

“Emmm….”

Jessie seemed to be dreaming, snuggling closer in his embrace. This made Kevin’s breath hitch as his body heated up.

Looking down from this angle, her beautiful chest was nearly on full display.

Kevin swallowed hard. The next moment, she turned her head slightly and kissed his collarbone.

Kevin placed her on the bed, gritting his teeth. However, she hugged his neck and pulled him down with her.

Before he could push her and struggle to get up, she wrapped her legs around his waist as if hugging a large doll.

“DAMN!”

As she continuously teased his sensitive spots, he wondered if she was pretending to sleep.

He tried to move her legs away, but regardless of how gentle or firm he was, Jessie’s eyes suddenly snapped open, locking onto his.

She instinctively covered her chest as he glanced at her coldly while getting out of the bed.

"I will sleep in the living room."

Left alone in the room, she examined her clothing by reflex.

Seeing that she was wearing everything, she sighed in relief.

As she tried to recall what had happened, fragmented memories rushed into her mind.

She seemed to have gotten drunk. After Lilian sent her home, she crashed onto the couch and fell asleep.

Jessie quickly covered her face as she thought of this, wondering if he had brought her back to the room because he couldn't stand seeing her asleep on the couch.

Kevin looked upset.

After some thought, she decided to shower and clarify all these things with him tomorrow.

The next day, she woke up a bit later than usual, probably due to the hangover.

After tidying up, she went out of her room, only to find that Kevin hadn’t gotten up, his door remaining tightly shut.

It was lucky that she had brought some kitchen tools in advance yesterday, though she only had enough ingredients to make a simple sandwich.

She wasn't sure what he liked, but she made a portion for him anyway.

Just as she finished making breakfast, the other room door swung open.

Kevin emerged, shirtless.

Seeing her at the dining table, his expression didn't change much.

However, Jessie was the one too ashamed to make any eye contact.

She recalled situations of last night, knowing Lilian had taken off her coat before letting her sleep on the couch. Moreover, she had clung to Kevin and clearly aroused him.

Having had little contact with men, her cheeks flushed.

He didn’t think she was dressed like that just to seduce him, right?

However, he didn't seem concerned about last night's events.

"Is there breakfast?"

"Mr. Harper, I don’t know what you like, so I only made a sandwich for you," she said, pushing the plate toward him.

Kevin glanced at it quietly.

Seeing his indifferent look, she thought he didn’t like it and was about to take it back. However, he spoke up.

"What did you do last night?"

Kevin observed Jessie intently.

Although Grandpa Harper always described her as obedient and sensible, he remembered her drunk appearance in detail last night.

He could tolerate her drinking in his presence, but not around other men. Especially now that they have already gotten married.

After all, people always act stupid under intoxication.

Jessie paused and explained, "I'm sorry. My friend took me out for a celebration. I didn’t realize I was such a lightweight. I passed out after just a few drinks, and she was the one who brought me back. I apologize that you had to see me asleep on the couch and bring me to the bedroom yesterday."

She looked quite sincere, and indeed she had to take full responsibility for what had happened last night.

Hearing this, Kevin's skeptical gaze softened significantly with a hint of doubt remaining in his eyes.

He looked down at the sandwich on the plate.

It looked good and tasted delicious, making him raise an eyebrow as he asked, "Did you make this yourself?"

Jessie nodded and smiled."I run a small dessert shop. There are some schools nearby, so the business is pretty good. They always find my food delicious. You could try it, Mr. Harper."

Hearing this, Kevin bit into the sandwich. The fresh taste and good texture tempted him to have a few more bites.

"This is quite good."

He believed in rewarding good and punishing bad deeds accordingly.

"Don’t drink out with other people at night unless I’m around."

"Huh?" Jessie looked up at him, surprised.

Taking another bite, he observed her sharply.

"Don’t you realize how dangerous your behavior was last night? Not only were you being irresponsible with yourself, but you also put your friend in danger. You should be grateful that you ran into me last night. If it had been another man, he would have taken full advantage of you.

"Since we're married, I have to curb such behavior and, of course, to protect you."
