Chapter 2 - Know your target better than you know yourself

AMBROSE POV:

"Alpha King Ambrose, Sire, the council is waiting for you." Hector one of my guards said pulling me out of my trance.

I finally saw my target with my own eyes for the first time today. And I was pleasantly surprised to see what she looked like. She was nothing like what I expected.

Her beauty was sharp and unforgiving. She wore this scowl on her face, giving her such an unapproachable aura about her. Which only made her all the more interesting.

Her hair long and white, whipping to and fro in the breeze. Her eyes glowed a crimson red.

A red just like her father had that night.

I felt my anger simmer for a moment, only to retreat as quickly as it arrived.

I thought about how she walked with confidence, and how it made her look fierce.

I grinned relishing in the idea of taking her, and how fun this was going to be.

I watched her movement intensely all day hiding in the shadows. My plan was day's away from being set in motion, and I would be damned if I missed even a single detail. I had everything planned to perfection. I've been working on this revenge for 15 years and the time was nearly here.

"Know your target better than you know yourself." Was something my father, Alpha King Cyrus, had always said when we were training.

I've had her watched since she was first shown to the world and acknowledge by the entirety of the supernatural.

The minute I found out the two people responsible for taking away my parents, my life, my everything, had a baby. It became my life's goal to take everything that mattered from them and crush it before their eyes. I would return the pain they caused me and my people tenfold. Asher and Violet Drakarys, I would take what they loved most the way they did me and my people.

How dare they enjoy the life of a family knowing they destroyed so many families?

I would take their beloved daughter and break her into a million pieces.

"You speak out of turn." Hector had pulled me away from my deep thinking about her. The interruption only annoyed me.

I was so getting so impatient; I could hardly wait to play with my pretty new toy.

"Apologies my Alpha." Hector bowed his head to me.

I nodded to Hector and made my way through the tall halls. I knew the council wanted to discuss me taking on a Luna, again, but I refused to take any woman until I got my revenge and brought our people back from the brink.

No matter how many times they ask my answer will remain the same. I would have no distractions. Nothing would stop me, not even a mate, from putting my race and my people back in power and from taking what I'm owed. Blood for blood.

ODETTE'S POV:

In two days, time, I'll be headed to the very same academy my mother and father attended.

I've been lost in my own thoughts all day. Wandering through the school grounds like a zombie.

I was dreading it, in all honesty. The whole thing was a drag really. It was going to be a pain in the ass adjusting, and I was beyond uninterested in going to school with a bunch of snobby obnoxious rich kids and oh too grateful scholarship kids.

I'm not prejudice, it's just, people sucked.

And it was always the same reaction when people recognized me. It wasn't really that hard if you knew my parents. I looked exactly like her mother and father. And just like my mother, I was also an energy vampire. People don't understand what that means, and people fear what they can't understand. So of course, having to get to know all new people was going to be a real shit experience for me. The stares, the whispers, the questionable and curious looks. It was unending and utterly exhausting.

They stared at me like I was a zoo exhibit. Many treated me like a threat, others wanted to kiss the ground I walked on in hopes of gaining some kind of favor. Stupid really. People are a disappointment, predictable. Vampires even more so, which is why I keep to herself.

"You should try and have more friends" my mom would always say, but I'm not keen on fake friends who want to waste my time, pretending to be my friend. I'm not like mother, I'm also not really friendly. Everyone says I get that from my dad.

"Odette, are you ready for training?" Kalvin asked breaking my train of thought.

"Hell yeah, I'm ready to kick that stupid bitch's ass." I chanted.

"That's my girl!" Kalvin said with a prideful smile.

I rolled her eyes, than gave him a sweet smirk.

Kalvin was the perfect boyfriend; we've been friends all my life; he's the son of my mother's academy friends Arya and Roland.

We agreed when we grew up, we'd get married, and he's never let that go.

Gazing at my handsome, red head boyfriend, I felt this warmth in my heart, it ached whenever I looked at him. Why loving him hurt so much.

Even though I'd outlive him, I love him still, I was willing to spend the rest of my life with him.

"Earth to Odette, you're getting ready to fight Raven, you know? You're archnemesis? Get your head in the game." Kalvin shouted slapping my ass.

She squeaked and then snapped shooting him a death stare accompanied by the middle finger. "Kal, fuck off. I don't need to get my head in the game to kick her ass."

"You guys are tied. Don't you dare lose to her; you'll never hear the end of it. And your dad will be disappointed as shit if you lose to that wolf bitch." Kalvin reminded me.

He was right, I'd be damned losing to a fucking dog.

"Oh, look her majesty finally decided to grace us with her presence. How blessed are we peasants?" Raven's sarcasm always got under my skin, and Raven knew it.

She's bullied me all of school. And I've just had to take it cause she's an 'endangered' species now, and frankly I despise unnecessary attention. I'd prefer if people didn't know my capability.

"Be blessed someone of my status would even give you the time of day, mutt." I intentionally dragged the word mutt out putting emphasis on it and giving her a malicious smirk.

She was emitting murderous intent; the rest of the onlookers saw it too. It left a cold chill in the air. But that didn't deter the crowd from growing larger. Everyone wanted to witness the vampire princess waging war against a beta wolf shifter, the best wolf in the school.

The two us face off, Raven snarls as she sheds her robe, her bones crack and move shifting into something else entirely. A massive blackish purple wolf with magenta eyes glaring aggressively into her eyes.

People knew about my telekinesis. I have quick reflexes and could sense the movement before it happened. My father never failed to remind me how my mother could quickly reshape the minds of vampires.

The instructor entered the ring and listed the rules.

"1 stop at the ding of the bell.

2 no weapons are allowed in the arena, yes, sticks are a weapon.

3 death is off the table, if your opponent looks too beat to continue, the fight is over.

Now, let the fighting commence!"
