It was early in the morning, the sun had just risen and it was snowing outside. After practising outside, Tom came home and made breakfast for himself and Nora. Tom wanted to watch some TV until Nora woke up, but the way Alice had just left him made Tom angry.
He couldn't understand how anyone could dare treat him like that.
What made Tom even angrier was that he couldn't stop thinking about the woman who had done this to him. He hadn't paid attention to it the day Alice left, but he realised it after a long time had passed.
It had been a long time since Tom had seen Alice, Christmas had passed. Tom knew the address of her house, but Alice wouldn't listen to him, so he didn't go. He was not as cruel as he used to be, but he was not a man without pride.
Tom lived with Nora at the time. Nora was going back to school soon. He had to buy some things. Muggle technology was really interesting, but their technology was still a bit too weak.
Tom had set up one of the spare rooms as her room. Tom couldn't get used to having someone else in the house. He was a very independent man and having someone else in the house restricted his freedom. He had begun to think about training Nora as his apprentice, but he was limited in what he could teach her. Tom's skill was in magic, but Nora cannot use magic.
Nora had gotten used to Tom and although she missed her mother, she felt lucky to live with this man. She actually had an aunt, but she didn't know how to contact her because she didn't know anything about her, including her phone number or address. She had hardly seen her aunt anyway.
When Nora woke up, she hurried down the stairs. The dining table in the living room was set. Today was the day Nora started school again. Even though Nora didn't like school, she had promised her mother before that she wouldn't miss school.
Tom put Nora in the car and they set off together. When they arrived at Nora's school, Tom got out of the car and looked around. Students were coming to school. Nora arrived six minutes before the start of school. Tom was punctual and didn't like to be late.
As Tom was saying goodbye to Nora, he saw someone familiar in the high school playground. Tom looked over and Alice was there, along with other members of the Cullen family. When Tom and Alice locked eyes, Tom took his eyes off her.
Rosalie was looking at Tom with hatred. If he knew Alice wouldn't be upset, he would kill her.
Tom felt the ill will towards him, but he didn't care. Of course he wouldn't show any mercy if someone attacked him, no matter who it was.
Nora waved at Tom as she talked to her friends and entered the school. Tom returned Nora's wave.
Alice was still staring at Tom, but he didn't look back. When he opened the car door and got in, he drove off quickly without looking at Alice.
Tom thought he didn't care about Alice anymore, but when he saw her he felt the same strange feeling as before. He felt even more angry. This anger was not with Alice, but with himself. He was angry because he thought he was doing stupid things.
A few seconds later, his hands, which were holding the steering wheel, began to make a crunching sound. Riddle looked down at his fingers and saw green sparks coming from them. This was the reaction of the excess magic in his body when he was angry.
Riddle decided to pull over to the side of the road and left the carriage, walking quickly into the forest.
Alice remained silent as she watched the events unfold. A few weeks ago they had been on good terms and she had even made some plans to fulfil them.
Alice sighed and hugged Rosalie. Rosalie comforted her. The Cullen family's view of Tom had changed after what had happened. None of them liked Tom.
"Don't be sad anymore, let's go home. Carlisle said he had something to tell us." Edythe took Alice's hand and pulled her towards the car.
When they got home after school, Carlisle was sitting in the living room. It was clear from his expression and posture that he was a little nervous.
Esme was the first to speak. "There's nothing dangerous, is there?" Esme was afraid that something dangerous had happened and was worried about her family. She had waited a long time for Carlisle to say something, but Carlisle had waited silently for everyone to arrive.
Carlisle continued. "I want to clear up a misunderstanding. I learned today that there was an old man and a grown woman who died a few weeks ago."
Carlisle paused for a moment and then continued. "The family had a little girl. I found out that Tom adopted that girl. When I checked the records. The dead woman had a baby girl. When I analysed the documents, I saw strange things. Nora is officially Tom's niece, but they are not related.
Everyone listened in silence. Some of them had lost their hatred for Tom and regret had taken its place, but they still had some questions.
"The bottom line is that Miller did not cheat on Alice." The whole family fell silent as Carlisle finished.
The Cullen family felt they had made the wrong comments about a good man. Alice was the one who regretted it the most. As Alice thought about what had happened that day, she realised that she had never listened to Tom.
When she looked at him today, she saw resentment and anger in Tom's eyes. The more she realised the mistake she had made, the more upset she became.
Alice quickly left the house and started to run, where she involuntarily ran towards Tom's house. Alice climbed up a branch and started to watch Tom's house. She could hear their voices from there.
Tom was having dinner with Nora. Nora talked and talked and Tom listened and sometimes commented. He was a little bored because he found the subjects ridiculous.
"Tom, you know I made a new friend, his name is Tony," Nora told him excitedly about her new friend.
"Friends are useless." Tom said what he thought.
Alice felt responsible for Tom's words. Not really, but Alice couldn't think of any other reason why Tom would think that way.
Tom didn't think that way about Alice, if someone had asked him what he thought about Alice he would have been completely silent. He wouldn't give his opinion, positive or negative. He closed Alice's eyes and just sat there on the branch. If she could cry now, she would.
Nora looked at Tom angrily and spoke. "Do you think I'm useless?"
Tom didn't think Nora would take anything like that from what he said. Why does everybody misunderstand him? This time Tom wanted to explain. "I don't think we're friends." The girl was upset when Tom said that, but her sadness quickly disappeared when Tom said the next words. "We're not as simple as friends." He was actually lying to save the situation.
As far as Tom was concerned, all friendships were stupid, even at Magic School, and they all hurt each other by wasting time on stupid things instead of studying.
If he could, he would take this girl as his subordinate.
