Chapter 37 - 36. Invisible Enemy

His hands were on Alice's naked waist. "You are so beautiful." His voice was like a whisper. Alice released Tom's hands and laid them on the bed. She sat on top of him.

Tom kept her on top to see what she would do.

Alice moaned at the pressure she felt underneath her. "MmmMM."

Tom got off the bed and started to kiss her. Alice kissed him back.

Tom had moved his hand to Alice's bra but was stopped by what he felt. He felt an unusual energy coming from downstairs in the house. He stood up and put on his shirt. Inside the shirt was his wand.

At first Alice couldn't understand what it was, but with her heightened senses she did. She heard voices from downstairs.

"Wait here." Tom is sure that there is nothing normal down there. The energy he felt was similar to magical energy. Without waiting for Alice to answer, he went out and closed the door. He cast a protection spell before going downstairs. When he went downstairs, he didn't see anything out of the ordinary. He walked towards where he had felt the energy.

As the strange energy returned to the kitchen, he picked up his wand. He walked slowly into the kitchen. As he walked, he waved his wand and cast a barrier spell that would prevent any creature from entering or leaving the house.

When he entered the kitchen, no one was there. Tom stopped walking because of the danger he felt. He looked down and saw a puddle. The puddle looked strange. Tom bent down and put his finger near the puddle, but pulled his hand away before he touched it.

This puddle was not an ordinary puddle. As Tom tried to get up, the protection spell on his body activated. Something attacked him. When Tom waved his wand, the attacks on his body were reflected back. Tom couldn't understand what it was that he couldn't see, but after reflecting the attack back onto his body, he was sure that something invisible had been damaged. Whatever was in the room was gone.

This incident made Tom uneasy. Something he could not see was attacking him in a way he could not see. He needed to investigate as soon as possible.

Tom hid his wand and went back upstairs. Alice was worried as she stood in the room. She had gotten dressed by the time Tom arrived.

As Tom entered the bedroom, Alice looked at him with curious eyes. She hadn't heard a sound after Tom left the room.

"Is everything all right?" It sounded like a being moving downstairs.

"Everything's fine. " Tom replied before Alice could ask a question.

Tom took off his shirt and lay down on the bed. "Come here."

Alice lay on the bed too. When she started to kiss him, Tom stopped her and hugged her. "It's late, let's go to sleep." At the moment, his mind was on his potential enemies. She didn't want to sleep in such a situation, she just wanted to think.

"Okay." Alice was sad that what she had expected had not happened. She continued to lie with her back to Tom.

Tom noticed Alice's mood. He put his arms around her. He buried his face in Alice's neck.

Alice couldn't stand it any longer. She wanted a hug too. She turned around and hugged Tom.

Tom pretended to sleep, but meditated for several hours. He thought about defence spells that would work against the different energies he had encountered today. He had a few spells in mind. He had never come across anything that Fiendfyre couldn't burn. This spell is perfect for both offence and defence.

He could also use the spell 'Dark Oblivion'. This energy absorbs the energy of the object it destroys. Most of the energy went into Tom's body.

After meditating, Tom fell asleep. Alice stayed by his side without disturbing him.

2 days later

A rainy morning woke Tom for a new day. With Alice's visit approaching, he made preparations at home. He magically cleaned the house and chose a simple but elegant outfit for himself. He wore a black jumper and black trousers. He carried his wand as usual.

It was two hours before Alice was due to arrive. Tom realised he was getting ready early and decided to go for a walk. As he stepped out of the house, a light drizzle hit his face. The coolness of the air helped him to collect his thoughts. Over the past few days, he had been questioning his relationship with Alice. He wasn't sure what she meant to him. Was she a wife, a lover or just a friend? Tom found it difficult to think about such emotional questions because logic was always in the foreground.

He thought about the energy he had encountered on his walk and what had happened that night. Unseen enemies were always the most dangerous. Tom needed to find the source of the energy he had felt that night. Nothing he had encountered before had been able to withstand such powerful magic as Fiendfyre. Perhaps he would have to investigate further.

When he returned home, there was still time for Alice to arrive. Tom rested his mind and body by meditating some more. When Alice arrived, he wanted to greet her in a calm and peaceful way.

As Alice walked through the door, Tom greeted her with a warm smile. "Welcome," he said as he hugged Alice. Alice was grateful for Tom's calm demeanour. The last few days had been a test for her.
