Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Magic Discs

My eyes drifted from the large bookshelfs that decorated the walls to the laboratory that was placed in the central area of the tower floor on a decent in the floor making the whole tower floor split in two sections.

I stared at the equipment of the laboratory section. It almost looked similar to a chemist set up. It reminded me of the few years I went to University to study chemistry before I joined the military.

"Interested in Alchemy are we?" Triss asked me with a big grin.

"Maybe..." I murmured.

"Well Bellz you are in luck then. I will be taking a sample of your blood as the crystal core can't read your magick yet."

"Crystal core?" I wondered to my self. Is that how they create the magic disc?"

"Why do you need my blood?" She looked at me with a seeking gaze as if she was searching for something.

"Well Bellz, you might be to young to understand everything if I told it to you. But I can do the best to explain if you would like me to?" I gave her a nod as my answer.

We walked down the circle stairs to the area were the laboratory was placed and she showed me to a soft chair with padded seat and back with armrest. It reminded me of a dentist chair but with softer stuffing.

I sat down in the chair as Tess went over to a drawer and took out a syringe. She went over to me and drew my blood from my arm. "You see the blood is put in this liquid." She held up a vail of a dark blue colored viscus liquid. "This is the sap of a carnivorous plant species called the Vampire plant. It seeks out its prey by feeling out for it's magic essence."

She took the syringe with my blood and put a few drops of it inside the blue sap. "When the blood makes contact with the sap it changes color depending of which primary element is present in the blood. For your case it should turn red as you are an Inferma." I nodded to show I understood what she said.

The sap started to shake as it absorbed the blood, it was as if the sap was alive. After a minute or so the sap had changed it's color to that of a shimmering red color with hints of orange in it. It looked like the sap had almost turned into liquid fire.

"As expected, you have the the primary element of fire. But that was already clear from the start."

"But miss Triss? What is it that you are looking for." She got quite for a moment before answering.

"When I look at you it feels like the magic essence that's in your blood is unbalanced. It feels like it can't find a steady flow through your blood."

"What do you mean? What is magic essence?"

"Your mother hasn't explained it yet?" She looked at me with a surprised look but then she changed her expression to that of a person deep in thought. "Right! I forgot, it's not wise to teach dromos to early about magic. If I remember correctly it's the law in the Empire of Shadow that you are not allowed to teach about it before the child get their first Magic disc..." She murmured to herself.

"Well what I can tell you is that blood has magic in it. More then that you don't need to know until you get older."

I felt a little bit disappointed not being allowed to learn magic yet but all I had to do was being patient.

"Well now that we have confirmed your primary we have to test the absorption of essence..." Before Tess could remove the vail of the fire red liquid it started to violently dance in the glass vail. "What's happening!" Tess said with a worried look on her face.

The liquid suddenly changed color to that of an ocean blue one before shifting back to the fire red. This kept repeating until it turned to a purple color and exploded.

Tess dow over me to shield me from the glass shrapnel and the strange colored liquid.

"Bellz? Are you okay?" I gave her a nod before looking over to the now empty stand that had held the vail. After Tess made sure I was alright she also turned to the alchemy table to inspect what had happened. "What was that? I have never seen the sap turn purple before..." She said with a low serious tone.

"Bellz I am going to need more of your blood. There are more test that I need to make, but I think it would be better for you to return to Magdala for now."

She took more of my blood before we went back the metal plate that teleported us to the entrance of the tower.

We then walk over to the altar where Lilly and my mother stod. It seemed as they were already done with getting Lilly her megic disc.

"How did it go?" My mother asked Triss.

Triss gave her wry look before answering. "We didn't check up the marking on his hand. I only tested his blood before something happened."

My mothers eyes grew more serious as Triss continued to explain what happened to my blood and how it had turned purple.

"I might have to send my grandmother a letter..." Mother said in a barley audible tone. "Triss!"

"Yes?"

"Please contact me immediately if you find anything out!"

Triss gave my mother a calming look before she put a hand on her shoulder and said. "I will send you a massage through the information crystal. But..." She took out two black colored crystals. "These are direct linked and should be safe. I think it's for the best that no one else hears us if my suspicions are correct Magdala."

My mother gave her a hug before we left the temple.

Outside my sister was happily humming on some weird tone she had made up.

"So Lilly how does it feel to have your first disc?" My mother asked her as we walked towards the trading district.

Lilly brought out a disc that was about ten centimeter in diameter across. On it was different sympols that represented different aspects of her magic. "I don't know yet what everything means but this is good right, Mother?" She pointed to a part of the disc that showed the sympol for wind and besides it was the letter C.

"Yes dear! C is amazing for someone your age." She lifted Lilly up in her arms and held her tightly. "My brilliant little storm! So amazing already!"

"Mother stop!" Lilly giggled while struggling in mothers arms.

"Mother?"

"Yes Bellz?" She turned to me as I looked at the disc in Lillys hands.

"What does everything mean on the disc?" I asked. She let go of Lilly and walked over to a park bench.

"Come her my children let me show you and explain it." Lilly and I sat on both sides of her as my mother took Lillys disc and showed me it fully.

[Name: Lilly Mephisto

Empty... ]

I looked it over and saw that there was a few spots that was empty but the most basic of information was registered on the disc. It seemed to have two sides. On the back side was her name age and tile and crimes that she had been convicted of. This according to mother was done as an identification tool.

On the other side of the disc was her Magic and other things as skills or techniques she would learn through life.

"You see as she learn and master different spells or fighting techniques through life they can be recorded in the disc if you yourself recognise them as a full fledge spell. But remember that it takes time to develop a technique good enough to register in the disc." She then pointed at the different letters behind primary element, secondary element and magic essence.

"You see these letters? They represent how much the essence in your blood is intuned with your soul. The ranks goes from Null rank which means that you do not have the potential or means of learning or growing in that area. Than you have the ranks F to A where F is the weakest and A the strongest. Then you have S, SS, SSS often the highest rank. But there is one last rank that only a few mortals has ever reached and that is G rank. Which stands for God rank and means you have transcended the mortal realm."

I looked at the disc with eyes of pure curiosity. I wanted one for myself to see what it would say. But I knew I had to wait a little more then a year before I could get my own one.

"Mother? Can I see your disc?" My sister asked her.

Mother gave a wry look before she said."Maybe when you both get a little older."

We then continued our shopping trip and returned home later that evening where we found father in perfect health shopping wood.

"Last I saw him he looked like he wouldn't be able to walk for a few days!"

"I knew you faked your injury dear husband." The air started to turn hot and a deep chill ran down my spine. I suddenly felt Lilly grabbing my hand to take me inside.

"Let's go test out my magic!" She said as if what was going on was the most perfectly normal thing ever.

"Can't she feel the air boiling?"

"Wait! Hun let me explain! I just thought that..." That was the last I heard before we entered the training room to test Lillys magic.
