Chapter 14 - Chapter 014

I watched Luca's back as he disappeared down the hallways once we got to the mansion. A breath escaped my lips. He had not mentioned anything about seeing me fighting, but then he had not spoken a word to me either.

"Where do you think you're going?" Hugo's voice drew me out of my reverie. I realised that I had been walking in the direction Luca had gone.

I blew out a breath. "I got carried away. It's not like I could do anything dangerous either."

Hugo didn't look convinced, but either way, he dragged me all the way to my room, and once again, I was locked in.

As I stripped myself of my clothes and wiped off makeup, I couldn't help but wonder why Luca had killed the Russion in front of me. Hadn't he gotten married to me to have me die instead of his precious lady?

The way he had saved me, for lack of better words, left an unwavering glint of hope in a tiny part of my heart. Perhaps Rosa had lied. She was probably just some jealous lady who wanted Luca for herself.

 My worries abated a little.

"Stop thinking about him, Rose. He's nothing but your target," I chided myself as I settled down on my bed after changing into something more comfortable.

The thoughts of the man with the tattoo flashed across my mind again. He had something to do with Ivanov, so I had to keep my eyes on him. But then, I had only seen him at a party, and I had no hopes of ever seeing him again.

Besides, I needed to know his role in my operation. Was he connected to Luca? Did he slo have some criminal history thay could lead me to Luca?

Well, Trevor alone could answer those questions. I waited desperately for the clock to chime at nine o'clock so I could go out for dinner.

At exactly nine o'clock, the door opened, and I leapt from my bed towards the door. To my disappointment, Hugo let a maid push in a tray of meals for me. I wanted to scream.

"Your meals, ma'am," the maid stated.

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at her. "Why am I not eating dinner in the dining room tonight?"

She shrugged, barely meeting my eyes. "Sir Castillo's orders, ma'am."

Before I could ask her any more questions, she scurried away. I screamed into my pillow. I needed to talk to Trevor. We needed to analyse the evidence that I had gathered and to measure our progress. This mansion was beginning to bore me to death.

I angrily yanked off the cover from the meal, and my heart skipped a beat.

The tip of a letter, barely visible, hung from a tiny slit between the bowl my food was served in and its walls.

A grin broke out on my face. I headed to my restroom discreetly to check it out.

'Meet me in the toilet on the west wing of the mansion. 9am sharp tomorrow morning.'

Good. Now we could get this party started. I dug into the meal excitedly after destroying the paper.

Luca Castillo, you're so going down.

My eyes were heavy with slumber as I lay on my bed. My stomach was also really full, making it hard for me to find a comfortable position on the bed.

A sudden dip of the he'd beside me made me fly up, my eyes wide open in shock. It was Luca, and he wasn't smiling.

"Look here, lady. I got married to you for a reason, and you won't mess it up, got it?"

I found myself trembling like a leaf, backing up continuously until my back hit the wall.

He advanced continuously toward me like a predator. "I'm not killing you," he growled. "At least not yet, so will you stay still?!"

My head bobbed on its own accord. I sucked in a sharp breath as his hands rested on my bare thigh.

"Ger your hands off me," I muttered, trying to ignore the weird sensation that shot through me at the contact.

His eyes darkened even more. Suddenly, his hands grabbed a fistful of my hair, holding my face close to his as snarled, "Don't you dare command me."

"Let me go," I pleaded as a sharp pain racked through my head. His grip only tightened, and tears pricked the corner of my eyes.

"Not until you let me have what I want."

A smirk threatened to appear on my lips. So he wasn't going to force me. That was a first. His tighter grip made me wince in pain. "I-I I'm on my period!" I gasped.

The look on his face made me almost wish I had kept quiet. Suddenly, he let me go and scuttled away from me like I had a deadly disease.

"And when does it end?" He groaned in frustration. "And don't you dare lie to me!"

 "Um... In three days' time."

He smirked, obviously making a mental note. "If you dare give me another excuse in three days' time, Marta, you're dead."

I let out a sigh of relief as he walked out the door. I heard him tall faintly with Hugo outside the door, and their footsteps soon faded away.

The door to my room was unlocked. Cautious yet excited, I gasped at my luck. I rushed to it and peered out. There was no one our there.

I rushed to grab a dark coat and shrugged it on before tiptoeing towards the door. I had barely stepped a foot out the door when a head popped in, making me almost jump in fright.

"Oh my God, Sofia. You almost killed me!"

She stared at me with a suspicious glint in her eyes. "Where are you going?" She asked.

Racking my brain for a perfect answer, she rushed in and closed the door behind her.

"You need to be careful around Luca, Marta. I overhears him talking to Hugo about monitoring you even more closely now."

My brows knitted in surprise. "What? Why?"

She was about to respond when the door flew open and an angry looking Hugo stood beside it..
