Chapter 16 - Chapter 016

I tossed and turned in bed as Trevor's words continually rang in my head.

"I knew it was a death mission sending a junior agent on such a mission."

It stabbed me like a sword to my heart.

Who did he think he was? Yes, he probably had more experience with missions like this, and he probably was an intelligent spy and a good mole. And yes, maybe he was a good kisser, but that was not enough for him to undermine me.

'I would prove him wrong,' I vowed, rolling over for the umpteenth time.

When the door to the room swung open, I trembled slightly. I didn't need to turn around to know it was Luca. His coldness was strong enough to be sensed by even a dead person.

I shut my eyes, pretending to be asleep.

When the bed dipped beside me, I felt my heart race. Was he going to force himself on me as he had done with Sofia? He did say he wasn't going to touch me after all.

What would I do if he did? Tears threatened to roll down my cheeks.

My dreams for my first time had been a fairytale. I dreamt of my husband taking his time with me and carefully leading me to the bliss of love. That dream was about to be slaughtered like it never existed.

Tears threatened to roll down my cheeks but I forced them away. I wasn't an amateur.

Trevor had underestimated me and I was going to show him that I wasn't just a junior. I would push my sentiments aside. After all, I guess, it was just sex. People did it all the time.

There was silence for a moment and all I could hear was his heavy breathing beside me.

I stole a glance at him. He was staring at the ceiling, obviously lost in thoughts. For a monster like him, he was probably thinking up more ways to torture innocent people.

"I'm not touching you, if that's what you're worried about," he stated, still staring up at the ceiling. "Go to sleep. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow."

My heart skipped a beat. He had probably tortured Sofia enough to his satisfaction so he did not need me. I felt a pang of guilt, but quickly shoved it away. No sentiment!

"Why are you here then?" I asked, trying to make my voice firm. It still wavered slightly.

"I'm here because I own this mansion and I can sleep in any room I so damn please!" He snapped, glaring at me. His glare was so sharp it seemed to see into my soul. I kept my face straight.

"Okay, then. Do as you wish!" I stated plainly, turning around to sleep, but it was hard to. Not when a monster was not under my bed but in my bed.

I got to understand what he meant when he said we had a long day ahead or us tomorrow. I was shocked when I stepped out of my room for breakfast.

There at the dining table was his father, mother, uncle, stupid cousin, and a lady I hadn't seen before. She looked so pretty I almost felt insecure. But it was none of my business.

As I settled at the table, all eyes turned to me. His mother's and uncle's eyes were neutral, his father's and stupid cousin's eyes were furious and the strange girl looked ecstatic.

"Oh my gosh. It's so nice to finally meet the bride that managed to steal my brother's heart," she gushed, rushing over and pulling me into a big bear hug.

Her personality took me a lot by surprise. I found a small smile settled on my cheeks. She looked like a pleasant person. That was a first in the Castillo family.

"Amelia!" Her father snapped, his eyes cold.

She rolled her eyes and sashayed back to her seat. "You're so pretty," she stated, staring dreamily at me.

"And where is your husband?" Alonso, Luca's father questioned, his eyes piercing into mine. His tone sounded very derogatory and condescending. "Or do you not sleep together?"

I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out. I had awoken to an empty bed this morning. It came as a relief to me and I couldn't care less what had happened to Luca or where he had gone.

"I'm right here," Luca's deep, rich voice drew our attention as he walked in our direction. He wore a navy blue Armani suit and his hair was neatly brushed, compared to last night when they looked all tousled.

As much as I hated to admit it, he looked handsome either ways.

I almost jumped when he sat beside me and placed a kiss on my lips in front of everyone. His father turned red in the face and stabbed the chicken on his plate like it had offended him.

Rosa was equally displeased. She cleared her throat sharply and began to cough. At first, it was normal but she began to cough even more, like she was about to die.

When, Luca turned to her with concern on his eyes, the butterflies that had been fluttering in my stomach died. He belonged to her anyway.

"Are you alright, Rosa?" He asked, passing her a glass of water and patting her back.

I rolled my eyes. Anything for the attention. It wasn't my business, I reminded myself, replaying Trevor's words in my head over and over again.

"I'm fine. Thank you, love," Rosa affirmed, a sly smile on her face as she faced me. I rolled my eyes, facing my meal.

There was clink as Mateo, Luca's uncle hit his spoon on his wine glass.

"Now, you might be wondering why we are all here," he started.

"Actually father, I think Marta is the only one wondering. She's not family after all and it's a family tradition."

Alonso nodded in agreement. "Yes. She is the only one in the dark so it doesn't matter. There's no need to explain it just because of her."

I pretended it didn't hurt me as much. After all, what was my business with their crime family?

Mateo sighed, dropping his glass. "I'm going to say it anyway. She is family now—our Luca's wife." He turned in my direction. "This is a three-day tradition in our family where we visit the newly weds to congratulate them on their wedding officially and watch them be intimate."

I almost choked on the water I was drinking. "What?"
