Chapter 17 - I am the one who will 'Remain'

Chapter 17

But Ark knows that he needs to calm down, or he will make more bad than good, so he retracts his aura and starts to go further inside.

Outside, the city is starting to enter 'Battle Mode.' On the walls, weapons appear: laser cannons, space blades firing machines, energy destroyers, big weaponized robots, big automated bows with arrows that explode and send a wave of poison everywhere.

And in front of the city, an army of robots starts to form.

The barrier is reinforced with two weaker barriers, but still strong enough to take a few hits from a galaxy conqueror fighter.

And inside the city, everywhere you look, you see only empty streets and empty buildings. All the people are inside the shelter, waiting for the war that is upon them.

Only some police robots are still walking the streets, searching for hiding animals or hiding people who didn't want to go to the shelter.

And the city's top players just felt something in the space above.

Then the space starts to churn and crack. At first, the crack is small, but it's getting bigger and bigger.

The top players all come out and look at the sky. Then a siren is heard, and a voice says,

'Take shelter,' 'Take shelter,' 'Take shelter.'

The top players, Kyle Storm, Zmaug Drakon, and Melody Ember, are heading towards the wall on the east side, with an army of robots, dragon kin, beasts, demons, elves, and humans.

They are heading towards the only space portal that is about to appear. Zmaug looks at the space and doesn't see any other portals, not even small ones.

"How come there is only one portal? Wouldn't it be better for them if there were multiple portals to attack from?"

Melody looks at him and says:

"They want to send some powerful monsters here. If they made more portals, then only weaker monsters could come to this side, so they are concentrating all of their army here so that the generals can cross to this side also."

Zmaug nods in understanding. Then he hears Kyle:

"Don't worry. We don't have to win; we only have to stall time until Ark gets here. So prioritize your life above all else, because if you are alive until Ark is here, then it's our win."

Zmaug and Melody look at Kyle, and they both think, 'When did he become Ark's follower?'

Then next to them appear Leah and Elion. They are both dressed in armor with the best weapons the clan has to offer.

Elion has a silver-colored bow with a tree at both ends, and the peculiar thing is that the bow doesn't have a string or arrows. Elion only has the body of the bow in hand, and that's it.

Leah has a red-black sword in hand, with the blade not straight, but with teeth like waves all over the blade. The handle is the body of a dragon with an open mouth where the blade is coming out.

When they get there, they both pay their respects to the City Lord and to Zmaug.

Melody looks at both their weapons and asks:

"Really nice-looking weapons you both have there. Can you tell us what powers they have?"

They all look towards Melody and think, 'She wants to make conversation so that the uneasiness goes away.'

Elion thinks it's not a bad idea; anyway, they will see the powers of the bow later.

Elion raises his bow and says:

"This is the ancestral bow, our patriarch's Zaos Vartan Weapon.

This bow doesn't need arrows because when you pull it, it uses nature's energy to make the string and the arrows. So with this bow, you have unlimited arrows, and you can give each arrow a different 'Spirit.'"

"You will see what I mean in a moment. And the elves are protecting our ancestral home, so that's why I am here with this powerful weapon, to make up for the elves."

"Ooh, that sounds really powerful. I can't wait to see it in action. And what does your sword do, Leah?"

"This is the 'Devourer.' It can eat anything until it is full. Then it can unleash all the energy inside at once, giving me the power of a Universe-level 5 strike. And I can do that as many times as I want. The more it has to eat, the stronger the strike."

Melody looks at their weapons one more time and says:

"These are really strong weapons. Now I can fight without a worry about you two."

While they talked, the crack in the sky started to tremble because it was big enough. Then the space started to become chaotic, and winds began to blow. The people were watching the sky in silence.

Then a boom is heard, and the crack in the sky implodes and becomes a portal. All are raising their weapons, all preparing their powers. The weapons on the wall are starting to glow. Zmaug takes to the sky and transforms into his dragon form. He becomes 50 km long and 20 km wide—a black destruction machine.

And then the portal stabilizes, and they can see the other side.

When the people see what lies there, fear grips their hearts.

The other side is only darkness. Only red eyes are visible—so many that it looks more like a sea. A sea of monsters that you can't see the end of. The people are thinking, 'We have to fight that?'

But before fear takes complete charge, they see three arrows flying towards the monsters on the other side.

Just when the portal stabilizes, Elion sees the sea of red eyes and the fear that creeps into the hearts of humans.

Then he takes his shooting stance, puts his bow in front of him, and places his hand where the string should be. Immediately, a string made of light appears, and three arrows made of light form. He takes aim and releases his hand.

The arrows take flight with a speed that puts even light to shame, toward the other side of the portal. When the arrows reach the other side, no monster runs or even cares about the three little arrows. They don't even care to protect themselves with a shield or aura; they just watch.

But when the arrows are inside, something happens: the arrows explode with the power of three suns. Where the explosion reaches, everything turns to ash. The monsters near the explosion don't even have time to scream; they just turn to ash. The monsters that are farther away see the devastation the arrows caused, and then there's no more 'then'.

They also start to melt because of the heat. The ones even further are hit by the shockwave and killed. For a minute, everything on the other side is visible from the light of the explosion.

The people watch with their mouths open. They forget about the fear, they forget about the monsters, they forget about the dread that they just felt a moment ago.

When the explosions subside, they see an empty place for miles and miles on the other side. Then they start cheering and smiling, the fear and dread forgotten.

But then they hear angry screams and roars, and they see the lines again filling with monsters. But now, there's no fear on their faces. They get ready to engage the enemy.

On the wall, Melody and the others turn to Elion:

"That was beautifully done. That really is a strong bow."

Elion just nods and watches the portal.

The monsters are also starting to come out of the portal, but before they reach far, a dragon's breath hits them.

Even stronger and hotter than the suns, the breath makes even more damage to the monsters. Zmaug keeps the breath active for ten seconds before he stops and transforms back into his human form, landing on the wall next to the others.

Then the people hear Kyle:

"WE ARE STRONG."

"Don't be afraid; we will... WIN."

The people start cheering again, and with all-time high morale, they are wishing for the monsters to come sooner so they can kill them, sooner.

And that is what happens: the monsters start pouring out of the gate. Some are running on all four limbs, some are riding other monsters, some are flying, and some are walking like they own the place.

But one thing is for sure: they look far worse than the monsters on Earth. They have black, gooey skin, and some are missing their heads. They have a mouth from the neck to their belly. The ones that run on all fours are missing half their heads and are only bones, with only skin on them. The other ones look like they have other monsters inside their bodies, like worms. Some are monsters conjoined together.

But the people are not afraid anymore. They cry:

"Attack! Kill them all! We will win!"

The robots, the lasers, the space blades machines, the energy destroyers, the automated bows—all start to fire. And for a moment, it looks like they really have a chance to win.
