Chapter 3 - Do what feels right

Just as Mia braced herself for the doctor to set her twisted foot, the door of the examination room was pushed open.

"MIA!"

"Dad, what are you doing here?" Mia was surprised when she saw her dad rushing in; she knew that he would be worried and thus didn't tell him that she was going to meet Henry.

Before her dad could reply, there was a little click, and the doctor set her twisted foot in the right angle. Mia gritted her teeth when the subtle jab of pain shot through her newly set leg and headed straight to her head, making it buzz.

"That can happen for a few seconds," the doctor told her with a kind smile. "Though you are not quite severely injured, I will still suggest that you stay the night at the hospital."

"Thank you, doctor."

"There is no need to say thank you. I was just doing my job," the doctor stepped out of the ward and left the daughter and father pair alone.

Toby turned around and looked at Mia before replying to her, "I checked your location on the tracker when I didn't see you at home."

He was quite terrified since the last incident where Henry left Mia alone on a deserted street. Once he had respected and admired the man, Henry Holman had become, but now Toby felt just as disappointed.

"A good thing too, or else I would have been worried sick tonight," he sat down on the stool next to the bed and took Mia's hand in his. "What happened now, sweetie? I thought that you were not going to meet with Henry anymore."

"Just wanted to give it my last shot," Mia replied in a soft voice, as she was filled with guilt and disappointment. She didn't want to worry her father, as Toby Wills had it rough from the day she came into his life.

Her mother passed away an hour after she gave birth to her and ever since then, her father has filled both the roles of a father and mother for her. Mia didn't dare to even think how hard it might have been for him when he was busy enough as it was with his career as a famous director and screenwriter.

Leave it to her for making her father worried like an idiot once again.

"Mia, sweetie. You have done nothing wrong for you to lower your head like this," Toby said to her as he tipped her chin with the tip of his finger. He said to her with a smile, "If someone needs to lower his head like a criminal, it's that foolish boy who can't even think straight and lost a charming woman like my daughter."

Mia let out a watery chuckle as she lowered her head and blinked the tears in her eyes away. Indeed so what if Henry forgot all about her and had a new life? Her father, the man who taught her the beauty of love, was still with her.

"Hey, dad," Mia clenched the hand that was holding hers and questioned, "Will you be upset if I divorce Henry?"

Henry's father was a good friend of her father, and Mister Holman had tried to persuade Henry many times on her account.

But Henry had remained insistent and never once listened to the words of his father.

Though the result of their ill-fated relationship didn't change, Mia couldn't refuse the help and support Mister Holman had shown her in the past few months.

She didn't want to cause any trouble between her father and Mister Holman.

"If that's what makes you happy, then I will not stop you." Toby patted the back of her hand with his free hand. "It's my fault that you have suffered for this long."

"No, dad—"

"There is no need for you to think too much, Mia. Have you forgotten what I taught you? What did your mother use to say when she was alive? I think I told you that."

"You only live once."

"That's right." Toby reached out and pinched the cheek of his daughter as he said to her, "You only live once, so why are you so worried about me and what I will think? Just live your life how you want. If divorce is what your heart tells you is what you need, then do it."

Mia smiled, feeling a bit relieved.

She knew that there was a chance that Henry might regain his memories and maybe that day she would be filled with regret. But she also knew that there was no way she could wait for that long.

"Thank you, Dad."

Henry drove back to his mansion after he was done celebrating his birthday. However, when he arrived at the mansion, he found that the entire house had been turned upside down. His brows furrowed as he strode inside and called for Lemira, his housekeeper.

"What is going on, Aunt Lem?" He looked around at the many boxes that were being packed up.

Aunt Lemira raised her head from the many piles of clothes that she was putting inside an empty cardboard box and replied in a polite yet distant voice, "I am packing Miss Mia's belongings. She called me to let me know that you and she are getting a divorce. Thus, she asked me to pack all of her belongings and send them to her house."

Henry frowned when he heard Aunt Lemira's cold voice but then again, the housekeeper liked Mia more than he did. He nodded carelessly, not bothering to ask anything about Mia before turning around on his feet and heading upstairs.

When Aunt Lemira watched the man walk away, she lightly snorted and muttered, "Sooner or later, you will regret letting Miss Mia walk away, Master Henry."

She had watched Henry pursue Mia like crazy after he fell for her. She also knew that Henry had to work his arse off to make Mia fall for him; now that he had hurt her in such a way, she knew that there was no turning back the dial.

And she wondered what Henry would do when his memories returns—

"AUNT LEM!"
