Chapter 4 - A Distant memory

Upon hearing Henry's scream, Aunt Lemira dropped the pile of clothes and rushed upstairs. She was worried that something happened to Henry; as a small servant, she couldn't afford to make a mistake that would cost her job!

"What's the matter, Master Henry?" Aunt Lemira asked as she rushed inside the master bedroom that belonged to Henry.

"Where is the scented oil that I use?" Henry asked, feeling frustrated. After his accident, the scented oil was the only thing that made him relaxed and helped him to fall asleep. But tonight for some reason, the bottle of the scented oil wasn't where it was supposed to be.

When Aunt Lemira heard his question, she turned awkward. Seeing her expression, Henry frowned and questioned, "What's the matter with you, Aunt Lem? Where is the bottle of the scented oil?"

"I packed it in Miss Mia's belongings," Aunt Lemira responded, feeling a bit confused and helpless.

"Why would you do that?" Henry asked; he felt just as confused as Aunt Lemira but for different reasons. Was this Mia's request? She wanted to keep something that belonged to him? Gosh, how long was she going to disgust him?

"Because you said so, Sir," Aunt Lemira stated. When she saw the bemused expression on Henry's face, she reminded him, "Earlier this evening you called me and said that you wanted everything related to Miss Mia to be thrown out. That scented oil was something that Miss Mia made for you, sir."

Henry raised his head; his fingers that were nursing his forehead paused.

"What did you say?" he asked.

"It was Miss Mia who made that scented oil for you, Sir Henry," repeated Aunt Lemira without hesitating. She couldn't reprimand Henry for letting go of Mia but she could at least remind him of what he had lost.

Henry's brows squeezed even more as he looked around the room; he realized that there were a lot of things missing even though he hardly ever came to this mansion after he lost his memories.

He wanted to ask a few more questions but then the drumming headache made him wince and he ordered, "Bring that scented oil for the time being; I will discuss this matter later on."

Aunt Lemira agreed with a helpless sigh as she turned on her feet and walked out of the room. She soon returned with the small bottle and handed it to Henry, who took it without saying anything and poured the scented oil in the aromatherapy machine.

The familiar scent was like a warm brush of a loving hand against his cheeks and Henry stopped feeling anxious.

He sent Aunt Lemira out of his room and popped the pills to ease his headache even further.

Only when his head was no longer hammering as if he were hit with a baseball bat in the back of his head did Henry pull out his phone and type the name of the scented oil.

"I never thought that Aunt Lem would start lying for that woman," Henry remarked, feeling clearly upset as he believed that Aunt Lemira was lying to make Mia someone significant in his life.

But as he typed the name that was written on the tiny bottle, he realized that none of the results matched the one that he was looking for.

His eyes fell on the small paper strip and he read the name aloud, hoping for the voice search to work better: "Forever Us."

However, the results were still the same. Instead, it was his head that started buzzing. Half conscious and half unconscious, he was standing in the middle of a small garden, with lavender in full bloom. Sitting next to him was a slender figure.

He couldn't see her face but he heard her speak in a somewhat distorted voice, "I made it, Henry. Look, I named it after us—I wish the two of us would stay together forever. So, I will name it Forever Us."

He sat up straight, unable to control his violently throbbing heartbeat and clutched his heart. He never once thought that there was anything wrong with what he was doing because, in his heart, what was important was the future that he wanted to share with Jamie and not the past.

So, why was his heart aching so damn much?

Ding.

He turned to look at the screen of his phone and read the message that was displayed on it.

[I have twisted my foot and it will take two days for me to get better. I will see you at the court on Friday.]

Reading the message, Henry pinched the bridge of his nose. He really didn't want to do anything with Mia. So why did it feel like he was making a mistake?

Two days later, Mia arrived at the courthouse. Though her leg was still not perfectly healed, she no longer wanted Henry to think that she was lying and trying to delay their divorce.

"Mia!"

When Mia stepped out of the taxi, she heard someone call her. She raised her head and smiled when she saw her best friend standing in the middle of the stairs.

"Taryn," Mia greeted the red-haired woman, who rushed down upon seeing her.

"How can you even smile at a moment like this?" Taryn rolled her eyes as she slapped Mia on the forearm. "Are you sure that you want to divorce without taking anything from that man? I swear that bastard deserves it. Don't go pulling a dumb blonde move when you are only partially blonde!"

Mia burst out into a little chuckle. She said to Taryn, "There is nothing dumb about this. I don't want to be entangled with that man any more."

"I still don't think that it is right," Taryn frowned and scoffed. "The less money you take, the more that bitch will be overjoyed."

Mia smiled calmly as she climbed up the stairs and remarked breezily, "She snatched my husband; do you think that she will let me off if I were to endanger her interests?"

"It's better to end this matter without further entanglement."
