Henry hesitated when he heard Ron's suggestion. Seeing this, Ron rolled his eyes impatiently. He took out a cigar and lit it up before lifting his shoulders and remarking, "Come on, Henry. Don't tell me that you are going soft on her? Feeling those sweet and bitter feelings of parting with your ex-wife?"
"Are you done speaking nonsense?" Henry snapped, anger coiling around his heart but at the same time there was another emotion that he could not quite catch.
Flicking the ashes of his cigar, Ron took a drag and questioned, "Then what's the matter? Call that woman and ask her to come to your usual VIP room at the Rockstar pub. We will drug her with the same aphrodisiac and leave her alone. Whether she can make it out safely or not, we won't bother with her. Think about it carefully, Henry."
He released a puff of smoke before adding softly, "My cousin suffered so much in the hands of that man. If not for the fact that she was fortunate, she would have become a victim of his selfish and brutal schemes. Compared to that man, we are still acting like gentlemen. None of us have any plans to tarnish Mia's reputation in the true sense."
Hearing his words, Henry's reluctance faltered and was replaced by anger. Indeed, if Jamie was not fortunate enough to find her agent, then the one in trouble would have been his beloved girlfriend. She was so sweet and kind; why should she suffer in such a way?
His eyes hardened as he finally made up his mind, while Ron, who stood beside him, smirked victoriously.
"Why can't I see him?" Mia asked with a stubborn look in her eyes. She never thought that one day she would have to plead to catch even a glimpse to see Henry. She had been coming to the company for the past three days and trying to get an appointment to see him even though she was his secretary.
However, Henry refused to let her have one and he never picked up her call. He even changed her position by letting her do office work while an intern followed him to the meetings, causing Mia to wander in front of the company for more than three days.
"I am his secretary. If I am obliged to work every day, why can't I meet with him?" She asked Roxanne, the trainee who was following Henry these past few days.
If she had not been in a desperate situation, Mia would have considered resigning.
Roxanne raised her hands in the air and said helplessly, "Hey, don't drag me into your quarrel. Do you think I am willing to do this? I am also annoyed. The boss is not willing to hear a thing even when I tell him that I haven't learnt enough to follow him to meetings. He gets upset with me when I don't do a good job and he gets angry with me when I mention you. I am having a hard time too, you know?"
Mia ran her fingers through her hair and apologised, "I am sorry. No offence, I didn't mean to blame you."
"None taken," Roxanne replied curtly. She then said to Mia, "I think you should try to reach out to your ex-mother-in-law; maybe she will be of some help?"
Upon hearing Roxanne's suggestion, Mia smiled mockingly. Her ex mother-in-law?
If she called that woman, she might force the head of the police department to execute Toby on some baseless accusation. Allegra Holman had never liked her, not even a slightest bit. Though her dislike was even intense when it came to Jamie, Mia knew that she would receive no help from Allegra.
Just as she was wondering if she would have to wait another day to meet with Henry, her phone rang.
Mia fished the buzzing thing out of her pocket and immediately answered the call.
"Henry—"
"Get your ass to the Rockstar pub. You know my room, so come right over. I will give you an hour; if I don't see you within an hour, then you can forget about seeing your father."
Once the man finished speaking, he ended the call.
Mia peeled the phone away from her ear and looked down at the screen. Her heart felt heavy and troubled. The way Henry had spoken to her made her worried.
When Henry was a teen, he was impulsive and arrogant. There were many instances where he bullied others; back then she foolishly stayed on the side and helped the bullied students behind Henry's back because she didn't want to leave a bad impression on him.
Of course now that she was grown up, Mia regretted being attracted to the bad boy and letting him do as he willed.
Because if she had stopped him back then, she wouldn't be the one suffering today. Looks like her retribution had finally come.
"Are you going to meet him?" Roxanne asked. Even though she didn't hear the content of the call deliberately, Henry's voice was so loud and angry that she had no choice.
She couldn't help but worry about Mia. It wasn't every day one could get an understanding and nice senior as Mia.
"What can I do?" Mia smiled mockingly. "If I don't listen to him, Henry will only make things difficult for my dad. Do I look like I have the power to stop him?"
If she did, then she wouldn't be pleading like a beggar.
Roxanne gave her a sympathetic glance but said nothing. She also needed this job, and as much as she sympathised with Mia, she couldn't risk her future for her.
Mia didn't say anything; she picked up her clutch and headed to the parking lot of the company. Sliding into her car, she drove to the pub that Henry asked her to come to.
"How may I help you, Miss?" As soon as she stepped inside the booming club that had a touch of wilderness but with a lingering classiness, the manager stepped forward and smiled at her and questioned.
"Room 203, can you take me there?" Since she was here, she might as well see what Henry wanted.
"Sure, please follow me," the manager nodded and took Mia with him. The elevator doors opened, and a sleazy voice greeted Mia as soon as she stepped into the VIP room.
"Oh, looks like Miss Mia is really punctual."
