Chapter 39 - Chapter 39 Hatching the Dragon Egg

"What, do you still want me to send you back?" Snape stood at the door of his office and said to Light behind him.

"Well, Professor! I want to ask about this Occlumency..."

"I know what you want to ask. Memories modified with Occlumency will cause subtle differences between Magic Power and the mind."

"When brewing potions, it will cause a subtle change in the potion, but it won't affect the effect and form of the potion. It's similar to an acceptable error."

"But this kind of error is very obvious to me." Snape directly interrupted Light's hesitant question.

"I don't know how you learned or why you know Occlumency. I don't care. All I know is that as long as one day you can't cast Expecto Patronum, I won't hold back. Now go back!" After saying that, without waiting for Light to react, Snape directly opened the door and walked in, then closed the door.

Seeing this, Light shook his head. When he returned to the dormitory and saw that Harry Potter hadn't come back yet, he washed up and lay down on the bed, feeling a headache.

"Truly, he's a double agent loyal only to Harry Potter's mother. Most likely, Dumbledore knows too. It's just that because of my identity preference, he didn't do anything to me."

"Sure enough, a warrior who has experienced blood and fire is not so easy to deceive. They are all battle-hardened veterans. I, a newbie, can only stay in the newbie zone!" With a soft sigh, Light fell asleep with countless thoughts.

"Light, aren't you going to Snape's for tutoring today?" Harry Potter noticed that Light wasn't as rushed as usual.

"I don't have to go every day. Just go there on Saturday afternoons." Light explained while walking.

"That's great! Let's go and see the dragon egg tonight! Hagrid said it should be hatching soon." Ron said happily when he heard Light's words.

"You guys better finish your homework first! The finals are coming up soon. I don't want you guys to flunk." Hermione rolled her eyes at Ron.

"School's only been in session for a little over a month. There's still loads of time! Don't worry about the finals yet." Ron wilted instantly.

"But, come on! It's a fire dragon! How often do we get to see one." Harry Potter said excitedly.

"We can't go there too often. If someone discovers what Hagrid has done, he'll be in more trouble than us..."

"Stop talking!" Light interrupted the conversation in a low voice before Hermione could finish.

The three of them followed Light's gaze and saw Malfoy at a nearby corner. Seemingly aware of their stares, he scurried off.

The others exchanged looks. "No, if we go to tell Hagrid now, we might be discovered. We need to dispose of the dragon egg as soon as possible." Hermione quickly realized.

"No way! Malfoy probably didn't hear anything!" Harry Potter said hesitantly.

"Anyway, we have to tell Hagrid that he might have been discovered." After saying that, Light walked straight out of the castle.

The three of them followed Light's footsteps.

The four of them made their way to Hagrid's hut. Hagrid greeted them with great enthusiasm, and the four of them could really sense how excited he was today.

"Is it finally going to hatch?" Hermione asked eagerly when she saw Hagrid's completely different attitude from usual.

"Nearly there, nearly there!" Hagrid said as he led the four of them into the house.

Inside the hut, the doors and windows were all sealed, with only a few ventilation holes left. The burning stove beside the wall kept radiating heat continuously.

As soon as Light stepped into the room, his eyes were glued to the dragon egg inside. The dragon egg was placed on the table, and a deep crack had appeared on the eggshell. The dragon egg also gave an occasional shake.

Light stepped closer to the table to take a look. Only to see the crack on the eggshell getting bigger and bigger. Under Light's surprised stare, the eggshell let out a clear sound.

From the crack in the eggshell, a bare, triangular head like a lizard poked out.

With a shudder of the eggshell, a scraggly black body wriggled out of the egg. Its slender limbs stood unsteadily on the table. Its spiky wings were bigger and taller than its jet-black body.

Light looked at the dragon on the table, which was only as big as a kitten, and couldn't help but feel suspicious. But the sparks it occasionally snorted out of its big, long snout dispelled Light's doubts.

"Isn't it beautiful?" Hagrid said excitedly.

Hagrid stretched out his right hand, wanting to touch the baby dragon's head. Unexpectedly, just as Hagrid reached out his hand, the baby dragon opened its fang-filled mouth and snapped at Hagrid.

Hagrid ignored the hand being bitten by the baby dragon. His thick palm was completely impervious to its attack.

Taking advantage of the baby dragon biting Hagrid's hand, Light also stroked it a few times. Feeling the information from the stone stele, Light knew he had it in the bag.

"Look, it likes me very much." Hagrid looked at the baby dragon's actions and liked it more and more.

"Norbert..., how about Norbert? Let's call it Norbert! It must have regarded me as its mother!" Hagrid looked at Norbert with a happy face.

Just when Harry Potter and the other two also wanted to reach out and touch Norbert, it seemed to know that it couldn't break through their defenses and would even get petted.

So it directly ignored Hagrid's teasing, opened its mouth and spat out a ball of fire. The fire shot straight at Hagrid's face.

If Hagrid hadn't been quick enough to react, his beard and hair would've very nearly caught fire.

"Are you okay?" Seeing Hagrid in a flurry, Harry Potter couldn't help but feel worried.

"I'm fine. Norbert is just a bit too smart and lively. It can breathe fire right after being born." Hagrid didn't give a hoot about Norbert's actions. Instead, he cheerfully praised Norbert.

"Ah! This..." Looking at Norbert with a mouthful of sharp teeth and the ability to breathe fire, Light didn't know what to say for a moment.

"No, we have to send it away. It's too dangerous!" Hermione looked at the fierce beast on the table, with a vigilant look on her face.

"No, we can't do that! I'm its mother. It's still very fragile. What if it's bullied in the wild after being sent away from me? We can't be separated." Hagrid said anxiously.

"No, it's Norbert, right! It might be discovered. Malfoy seemed to hear us talking about the fire dragon before." Hermione said anxiously.

"I don't think so!" Ron and Harry Potter exchanged a glance and said, sounding a bit hesitant.

Light shot a sidelong glance at Malfoy lurking outside the window.

"It's too late. He's right outside the window." After saying that, Light led the charge and dashed out.

Hagrid also reacted and turned around and rushed out.

As soon as Light stepped out the door, he caught sight of a figure staggering towards the castle.

Seeing this, Light immediately took out his wand and cast the spell Petrificus Totalus. Malfoy's body stiffened and he fell straight down.

Hagrid rushed towards the fallen Malfoy. Harry Potter and the other two also dashed out. When they saw Hagrid carrying the rigid Malfoy back, they were flustered for a moment.

"What should we do? He saw it! Is there any way?" Ron paced around restlessly.

"Release the spell on him first! See what he has to say. If we can strike a deal with him, that would be great. If not... " Hermione trailed off, giving an intimidating vibe.
