Chapter 9 - Chapter Nine:The Cafeteria

Sera

.....

Serafina and Chloe walked into the cafeteria, scanning the menu boards. Serafina's eyes widened in amazement. "Oh my god, the menu is crazy! I had no idea we could choose anything we want."

Chloe laughed. "That's one of the perks of being in Zena Academy. Apart from the whole hierarchy thing, we get to pick whatever we want."

Serafina's eyes landed on the Chinese takeout and pizza options. "I'm going to try both," she said, picking up a tray.

Chloe raised an eyebrow. "You're going to eat both?"

Serafina grinned. "Why not? It's not every day I get to try new food."

As they made their way to the front of the line, Serafina noticed that the food would pop up on their trays if they couldn't carry it all. She and Chloe found a table and sat down, scanning their student cards to make the food appear.

As they ate, Chloe started telling Serafina about her family. "I have three brothers, and I'm the only daughter. My parents had to struggle to get me into Zena Academy because we're not from the top hierarchy. We're second in line."

Serafina's eyes widened in surprise. "I had no idea. What's it like, being from a lower hierarchy?"

Chloe shrugged. "It's not so bad. But the school is divided into five hierarchies, and the Mortals are considered the lowest."

Serafina felt a pang of shock. "That's terrible. I had no idea."

Chloe leaned in. "Most girls here hate the Mortals. They think they're beneath them."

Serafina felt a surge of anger. "That's not fair. Everyone deserves respect, no matter where they come from."

Just then, a boy with mischievous orange hair and piercing blue eyes sat down next to Serafina. He was wearing his uniform, but his tie was wrapped around his hand, and his sleeves were rolled up, revealing a dragon tattoo on his arm.

Serafina stared at his tattoo cause she was a fan of one she always wanted one, felt a flutter in her chest as she met his gaze. "Hi," he said, smiling at her.

Serafina blushed and looked away, feeling a sense of unease. Why was one of the descendants coming over to sit with her she just had a full meeting with both descendants so maybe that was too much for an elite student that all wanted.

"Hi," she replied, trying to sound casual.

Ryker"So, you're the new girl, huh? I've heard a lot about you."

Serafina raised an eyebrow. " yeah I am so what have you heard?"

Ryker grinned. "Let's just say that you're making waves, Serafina. I like that but you should lay low too much attraction isn't great for you."

Sera "yeah got the whole rainbow hair going on so I am a walking light bulb."

Ryker stares"you really are fina"

Serafina felt a spark of connection with Ryker, but she couldn't shake off the feeling that he was trying to provoke her.

As they bickered, Serafina noticed that everyone in the cafeteria was staring at them. She felt a sense of unease, wondering if Ryker was trying to pick on her.

Finally, she'd had enough. "Look, Ryker, I don't need your help. Why don't you go back to your drama queens and leave me alone?" she said, trying to sound confident.

Ryker's eyes widened in surprise, but then he smiled. "You're feisty, I like that," he said, standing up. "I'll leave you alone for now, but I'll be seeing you around."

As Ryker walked away, Serafina felt a sense of relief wash over her. She turned to Chloe, who was watching her with a curious expression.

"What just happened?" Chloe asked.

Serafina shook her head. "I have no idea, but I think I just made an enemy."
