Ryker's eyes seemed to bore into Serafina's soul, his gaze piercing and unyielding. Serafina felt a shiver run down her spine as she stood frozen, unsure of what to do next.
Chloe stepped forward, her eyes flashing with warning. "Ryker, back off. She's the new girl, and your games don't apply here."
Ryker's gaze flickered to Chloe, and for a moment, Serafina thought she saw a flash of annoyance. But then, his expression smoothed out, and he smiled, his eyes glinting with amusement.
"I'm not messing with her, Chloe. I just like her new haircut. And Alisha's always been a bit of a...handful."
He turned to Chloe, his voice taking on a charming tone. "Hey, Chloe, want to come to Star Ash this year? It's going to be epic. And you should bring Serafina along...after she gets a proper haircut, of course."
Serafina's eyes narrowed, her anger simmering just below the surface. She knew Ryker was trying to provoke her, but she wasn't going to fall for it.
"I'm not interested in your games, Ryker," she said, her voice cold and detached. "And you can tell Alisha to mark her territory somewhere else. I'll be at Star Ash, so you can just focus on being a good host."
Ryker's smile faltered for a moment, and Serafina thought she saw a flash of surprise. But then, his expression smoothed out, and he chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement.
"We'll see about that, Serafina," he said, his voice low and husky. "We'll see about that."
With that, he turned and walked away, leaving Serafina feeling frustrated and uneasy. What did Ryker want from her? And why did she always seem to find trouble wherever she went?
As Ryker walked away, Serafina let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. She felt a sense of relief wash over her, but it was quickly replaced by a sense of unease.
"What's his problem?" Serafina asked Chloe, nodding towards Ryker's retreating back.
Chloe shrugged. "Ryker's always been a bit of a wild card. He's got a lot of power and influence, and he knows how to use it."
Serafina raised an eyebrow. "And what's with the Star Ash thing?"
Chloe grinned. "Star Ash is this huge party that the supernatural kids throw every year. It's a big deal, and everyone who's anyone is going to be there."
Serafina's eyes narrowed. "And Ryker's going to be there?"
Chloe nodded. "Yeah, the descendants throw this every year but in reality it a party to pick the targets of the year last year a girl almost died and left school so don't really get into Ryker's game and Ryker might be flashy but the real boss was Aiden.
But don't worry, Serafina. I'll be there to keep an eye on you to make sure you make it alive and you could come over my room and see what would clothes look good on you for the party and I am in gray shade the firm for fire magic."
Serafina smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Chloe. "Thanks, Chloe. I owe you one."
As they walked to their next class, Serafina couldn't shake off the feeling that she was in over her head. Ryker, Alisha, Star Ash...it all seemed like too much to handle.
But Serafina was determined to prove herself. She was not going to back down from a challenge, no matter how daunting it seemed.
And as she walked into her dorm she thought of what to wear to impress.
