I followed Sophia through the winding streets of the city, my heart pounding in my chest. We walked in silence, Sophia leading the way and me following closely behind.
As we walked, I couldn't help but notice the strange looks we were getting from passersby. Sophia seemed to be drawing attention to herself, her bright yellow sundress and curly brown hair making her stand out in the crowd.
I felt a pang of unease, wondering if we were being watched. But Sophia seemed to sense my concern, glancing back at me with a reassuring smile.
We eventually arrived at a small, unassuming building tucked away in a quiet alley. Sophia pushed open the door and gestured for me to enter.
I hesitated for a moment, wondering what I was getting myself into. But Sophia's smile put me at ease, and I stepped inside.
The building was dimly lit, the air thick with the scent of incense. Sophia led me through a winding corridor, eventually stopping at a door marked with a strange symbol.
She pushed open the door and gestured for me to enter. I stepped inside, finding myself in a small, dimly lit room.
The room was sparse, the only furniture a small table and two chairs. Sophia gestured for me to sit, taking the chair opposite me.
"So, Kae," she said, her voice low and mysterious. "I've been sent to help you. You're in danger, and I'm here to protect you."
I felt a surge of questions, but before I could ask any of them, Sophia leaned forward, her eyes locked on mine.
"You're not like other people, Kae," she said. "You have a special gift, one that makes you very valuable to certain people."
I frowned, unsure what she was talking about. "What gift?" I asked.
Sophia smiled, her eyes glinting with amusement. "You'll find out soon enough," she said. "But for now, let's just say that you're in grave danger. And I'm here to help you."
I felt a shiver run down my spine, unsure what to make of Sophia's words. But as I looked into her eyes, I saw something there that made me trust her.
"Okay," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I'll trust you."
Sophia smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "Good," she said. "Because we have a lot of work to do."
And with that, she leaned back in her chair, a small smile playing on her lips. I felt a sense of trepidation, wondering what lay ahead. But with Sophia by my side, I felt a sense of hope that I hadn't felt in a long time.
