I silently criticized the Animagus spell in my mind. The first-year students of Hufflepuff and Gryffindor had arrived one after another.
"Hello, Jon."
"Hello, Steven."
"Good morning, Jon."
"Good morning, Heloise."
Greeting the Hufflepuff classmates one by one...but they didn't know that the tabby cat on the podium was Professor McGonagall, and they were talking and playing with each other without any scruples.
Among them, Steven Lucas wanted to go to the podium to pet the tabby cat, but was stopped by Jon.
Ginny Weasley also came and sat in the front row, alone not far to Jon's right.
At half past eight, everyone in the class arrived... probably no one would be late for the first day and the first class.
...
...
"Good morning, everyone!" Professor McGonagall's voice suddenly came from the podium, startling most of the students: "Please keep quiet!"
The whole classroom suddenly fell silent.
"I'm Minerva McGonagall, your Transfiguration teacher..." Professor McGonagall briefly introduced herself.
"Changing one thing, or one person, into another is a very dangerous process!" Professor McGonagall's voice was not loud, but it had a strange persuasiveness: "A student who was not careful enough turned himself or others into a pig, a sheep, or even worse. This has happened many times in the history of Hogwarts!"
"If we're lucky, this transformation is not permanent..." Professor McGonagall paused, "but if it is permanent, it will be a disaster!"
"There are sixteen known magical animals that were created by wizards' failed Transfiguration spells, including the infamous 'Five-legged Monster'... and in the history of Great Britain, at least three hundred wizards died from their own failed Transfiguration spells; and nearly nine hundred others became disabled for life because of their own failed Transfiguration spells!"
"I hope you won't be one of them!" Professor McGonagall glanced at the crowd meaningfully.
The Transfiguration classroom became so quiet that pinpricks of air fell, and the young wizards looked at each other in bewilderment.
"After you understand the dangers of Transfiguration, I will take you to understand the complexity and magic of Transfiguration!"
Professor McGonagall said as she waved her wand.
Almost in an instant, the podium in front of her turned into a huge lion:
"Ah!" The lion roared and jumped in front of Colin Creevey's seat, scaring the little Gryffindor boy so much that he almost fell off his chair.
Several students who were close to it retreated again and again.
Professor McGonagall waved her wand again.
The lion took two steps forward and turned into a short badger, running around on the desks... It even jumped onto Jon's desk, leaving a claw mark on it.
"Squeak…squeak…"
Finally, the badger returned to Professor McGonagall and transformed back into the podium.
The students who were just in a panic about Transfiguration were quickly attracted... and were eager to learn how to do it immediately.
"Of course... Turning furniture into animals is something you can only learn in your senior years!" Professor McGonagall motioned for everyone to be quiet: "I will take you to start with the simplest steps, and first learn how to turn matches into needles!"
She gave each student a few matches.
"Imagine the shape of a needle in your mind... Keep that scene in your mind until it is fixed without any changes... Now, let the match in front of you and the needle in your mind overlap..."
"The spell is 'Akus'! Note the emphasis at the end... Now, raise your wands..."
"Akus!" Jon raised his wand and shouted without hesitation.
However, the matches in front of him didn't seem to have changed at all.
"Very beautiful, Miss Weasley!" Professor McGonagall's voice sounded to Jon's right: "A great success on the first attempt. One point for Gryffindor!"
All eyes in the class turned to Ginny Weasley.
The end of the match in her hand had changed a little bit...
"Could it be that Voldemort's diary has the effect of a portable grandfather?" Jon touched his head after taking a look at his matches which did not show any change.
…
After one class, a total of four students made the matches change, and Jon Hart was the fourth one.
He just made the tail of the match a little more pointed, but Ginny Weasley made the whole match look like a needle... Professor McGonagall was so happy that she gave Gryffindor another point for her.
This made Jon a little depressed, but not because he didn't stand out or get extra points... You have to know that he had memorized the entire "Elementary Transfiguration Guide", while most of his classmates had never opened the textbook before school started.
In fact, he already knew the whole theory of the spell "Akus" clearly... The fundamental reason why he couldn't succeed was that it was difficult for him to draw the image of the needle in his mind and overlap it with the match.
But there was no time to feel sorry for herself, because the Charms class was about to begin.
The Charms class was located in the corridor on the left side of the fourth floor. When Jon followed the Hufflepuff crowd here, he found that the place was already full of Ravenclaw students.
The short Professor Filius Flitwick had to stand on a pile of books to reach his desk... before he started the class, taking out the roll and calling the roll.
There was no big figure like Harry Potter in this class, so it didn't make him feel surprised.
Like Professor McGonagall, Professor Flitwick spent half of the class emphasizing the importance of Charms classes to them... and then demonstrated the Crushing Charm, the Repairing Charm, and the Swarming Charm in public.
Then, Professor Flitwick taught them how to cast the "Hover Charm", a spell that allows objects to remain suspended in the air for a few seconds.
Moreover, Flitwick claimed that if the vast majority of students in the class could easily master this spell, he would teach them the more advanced, profound and extremely useful "Floating Spell"!
After half a class of practice, no student from either academy could successfully cast the "Hover Spell", including Jon.
Although Flitwick comforted them, the "Hovering Spell" requires a lot of practice. He has taught so many classes of students, and only a few students can successfully master it in the first class...
But on the way to the dining hall, Jon was still very disappointed.
Just like in the Transfiguration class, he had already figured out all the theories of the "Hovering Spell" and even the advanced version of the "Floating Spell", but it was difficult to put it into practice...
The first morning at Hogwarts was obviously a bit bad for him!
